When I saw the Toshiba BomBeat 40 in rbj's wanted post, I almost thought I had one. But when I looked, I realized mine was a BomBeat 16.

These boxes look SO much alike! The 16 seems a little shorter, but the controls look like they're same as those on the 40. Things are just in slightly different places. The overall design is nearly the same!

Can anyone who knows both of these boxes do a "compare and contrast"? Is one model more powerful than the other? Is one a later/earlier version of the other? The big question for me is, Why would Toshiba make two boomboxes that are so much alike?

There really is no comparison - the BomBeat 40 is much bigger with 8" woofers and more power (I assume).

The BomBeat 16 is still a beautiful box tho and on my short list of boxes to buy.

i have never heard the 40 --but am lucky to own the 16 --its gorgeous/elegant/extraordinary to look at ---but its a small sounding medium size box

Nice machine.Both have the same deck.

I don't see them being alike at all. Not to mention that new models came out constantly anyway, if simply to change the styling.

some how ilike the 16 better! is it the long tunner section?

More than likely, they both came out at the same time - the BomBeat 40 and it's little brother, the BomBeat 16.

I wonder if there was another box in the series - something in between maybe.

Call me crazy, but the BomBeat 16 looks more "hi-fi" to me while the BomBeat 40 looks more "street." I think I'd choose the 16 over the 40 any day.

I like the looks of the Bombeat 40. I'll bet the 16 sounds really nice though.
