the day i nearly sold them all.

billpc55 - 2008-11-05 22:10

back in the summer when things were pretty bad with the money situation,i thought of selling up shop. just blowing out all the boomboxes and moving to a one bedroom place. getting rid of the whole lot.
i offered everything i have for 600 bucks. this included the new kaboom i have as well.
i had a few bites from total low ballers, that i just laughed at basically.
i mean i would think that a new kaboom and my big boxes alone would have been a bargain at that price. it was strange i mean people just trying to tell me none of them were worth more than 25 dollars. i think i could get that for the volume knob on the pioneer robo alone.
funny thing is i spent maybe two or three days thinking of getting rid of them and then decided just to tough it out.
i am glad i hung on to them and didnt bail out.
have any of you ever come close to closing up the boombox shop and getting rid of them all?
i still think its pretty funny how people try to bargain on a bargain. i mean even if someone only liked half of what i have they could most likely ebay off the other half and make some money out of it. i mean most of my boomboxes do need minor things and i do mean minor. some of them like the pioneer robo needs a bit more but its all there and working.
i am looking forward to trying to squeeze a few more into this place. i also am hoping to do a video with my new band using some of them. worry not no boomboxes will be harmed in the filming of it.

A very wise move on your part. You would have really regretted getting rid of your favorites. I'm glad to hear that those days are in the rear view mirror for you.

Speaking of harming boomboxes, where has Ned209 gotten to these days. Been a fortnight or two since he stuck his neck in round these parts.

Btw, I haven't seen it said anywheres, but it's good to see you back posting on the site.

bill -- glad you kept your cool and kept your boxes. Smile

PF --Ned made a post here last month to say he was moving to australia --he may not be set-up and on line yet

Bill, I do believe that was a crisis narrowly averted. Nod Yes Like PF said, you would have really regretted selling your entire collection.

billpc55 - 2008-11-06 08:31

yep you guys are right. i mean i would never get back most of what i have again. the strange thing is i was really expecting someone to jump at the offer.
of course one of the lowballers tried to offer the full amount i was asking after i changed my mind. he even offered more than the full amount.
i was glad and still am glad i didnt sell them.
it wasnt really the money part of it. i figured i would sell them to someone for a good deal and move to a smaller place to save some bucks. it just wasnt meant to be.
i never want to be one of those guys that talks about what they used to have. i want to be a old bastard that does have.

Glad your still around Bill...

Ive rotated my inventory so much that Ive sold many collections many time over! Of course always hanging on to the half dozen or so I have room for... as my tastes have changed, or bigger and better boxes needing repair presented themselves at bargan prices...

Now that my repair guy is MIA... I am clinging for dear life to the ones I have!!!! Smile

billpc55 - 2008-11-06 09:22

i dont even have a repair guy. i mean the one guy i took a box to for repair. well to just change the belt and clean it inside and out burnt me.
i mean when i opened it up when i got it back it was no cleaner than it was before. all he did was spray some cleaner into the pots.
i was pretty choked i went back and made him open the box and refund my money. he had other customers in the store at the time too.
i was extremely peed off. i dont mind paying someone money if they are going to actualy do the work. i guess he must have thought i was crazy for wanting the old radio in the first place. i mean when i first went in he tried to sell me some silly looking jvc mini system that looked like a tranformer.

Bill you made a smart move, I think we've all regreted acting in haste at least once or twice.

I do laugh at the people who lowball a steal of a deal. I've actually profited quite nicely from these cheapskates more than once. I've bought numerous items off of Craigslist that were super deals at the asking price, which I gladly paid. The kicker is there were people making offers before me, some people have to bargain no matter what the price. If they can't get a concession from the seller they don't buy, even if it's a steal and that just cracks me up because it's dumb. Glad nobody wiser saw your add at your weekest moment, stick with us brother and have a blast.

well i'm at 109 right now after selling a few, times are tough,i did think about letting some go especially after my mom's heart surgary, and paying mtgs on 2 homes, but honestly, yes i might have gotten a temp, cash infusion, but for how long? I decided the boxes bring me happiness and pleasure something a little influx of money for maybe a month or two could never match!
