Well I opened the old girl to see what gives with the deck and got a little carried away.
I am going to make this old girl perfect again because she is so worth it.
I got all the necessary ingredients , including replacement belts to bring this box back to her full glory.
a complete driptip cleaning and a t/a paint job are in order here.
Here is what its looking like...

Franklin, you have your work cut out for you man. But there is no doubt, you will make her beautiful again! I love the grid on the speaker covers.

Well here is how its progressing .
I changed the belts today and got the deck working 100%
What a pita that was !!!!
It was worth it though ,is a great sounding/recording deck.
I also got the paint complete and re-assembled.
It came out mint.
So im doing the finishing touches and the last part was gluing all the lenses back on the main unit .
I glued my first piece back on and damit the glue started removing the print from the backside of the piece.
now unless i can get a hold of another I am screwed,
all that work for nothing. I am so pissed.
Worse case is I will sand the rest of the print off and paint it plain and at least have the plexi on and looking good. No print on it though which kinda takes away from the looks of the piece.
I cant believe this happened.
Oh well hopefully someone can help me out with a part.

I will post some pics of it together tommorow I kinda lost interest in documenting after my incident with the lens

Hey Frank, it may not be the end of the world. I'm sure if someone here could get a good scale photo of the lens that you could get a replacement reverse etching made for it. Nod Yes

WOW,its' looking great Frank. Super Job!!!!!!

ford93 - 2008-06-20 13:48

Great job TA sorry to see what happen I think olskool is right hope you can solve that problem.

fatdog - 2008-06-20 19:16

Man, I hate to see that happen, Frank! I would have stayed away from any "flammable" glue. I used Creative Memories Photo Splits to reattach the aluminum faceplate on one of my GF-666 deck doors. It's the same stuff that was on the back of the WX-1 labels.

transamguy1977 - 2008-06-21 10:54

Oh well live and learn I guess.
I will make the best of it.
I fixed the piece to the left of the deck and it matches in color almost perfectly.
I will do the same with the lens to the right of the deck.
It just wont have any print on it.
I may look into press type for the cassette function buttons and whatnot.
It will look great but not original.
Here are the pics of it so far.
I will post some more when I get the other piece on and finished.
