sweet find. those thrift shops have gotten a bit wiser now or just more educated.
so much more fun than ebay still.

jlf - 2008-11-02 17:31

Needle in a haystack these days!!!!!

Great find!

jaredscottfla - 2008-11-02 17:32

Smile Thanks Guys
i Think the belt maybe going on the second tape deck(the play deck) it plays but is lower in volume then the rcord deck,i'll try a cleaning and see if that cures it. I'm curious how this one compares to one of my all time fav's and my personal fav sharp the gf575. In just playin with it for about an hr,i'm impressed but still the 575 is def better.
This one is kinda neat with the tuner display on the right hand side, have not tried sw on this box yet, will be doin' so later tonite,am is just ok,Fm is very very strong, and the record deck tape player is good. It's got alot of dust and dirt in the crevices but it is pretty awesome to find this quality of a bbx at goodwill for $30,I RAN over and grabbed it,when i saw it on the shelf,i was thunderstruck, amazing what people give away,!
It def needs some more cleaning and the play deck buga boos worked out,but it def ranks as one of my best in the wild finds ever! Cool

ahardb0dy - 2008-11-02 17:36

JSFLA has always been charmed with TSF's.

He has the golden touch I believe...

Commentary Space here...

(You guys in the Big Bucks Rich High End Wealthy Money part of the state are going to have better odds than up here in north Tampa Bay. Most of the people here in Pasco County are the parents of the retiree's from St Petersburg and buy generic baked beans at the Dollar Store. They give new meaning to the words Cheap & Old, so imagine what you find at thrift stores.)

Well done Laddy.

A GF-515

Hi-Nice find-a GF Sharp in Goodwill!!
That's a find!!
I hope that I can find an old classic at the Goodwill someday.
I've been getting eggs and some old single speaker radios and then there's the Aiwa.
It is amazing at what some people will give away!
Nice find and have a great week-Ghettoboom777. Smile

masterblaster84 - 2008-11-03 10:30

I agree ghettoboom777, lots of eggs and some mono's but the classics are very rare in my Goodwills. Makes me wonder if people aren't just throwing them away rather than donating or selling them, the thought makes me cringe. Roll Eyes

jaredscottfla - 2008-11-03 16:20

Smile Hey all Totally agree on what's been said Re: Goodwill,This one takes ANY junk though, and does sell it. I decided to press my luck one more time and went back this afternoon,They were unloading the truck from Local donations,No Grails for 30 bucks today but a Nice Portable 8 Track Player for $3 Cool

jaredscottfla - 2008-11-19 23:49

Tonite was The BBx test Between My two high end Gf sharps
Gf 575 VS Gf 515

Cass Player-Winner: Hands Down The Gf 575 Snuffs The 515
Cass Recording: I very Rarely Dub Tapes Anymore,But i Did For Tonights Test and Used Line in to Hook up a Portable cd,and copy a cd to cass Winner: Slight edge GF 575
Tuner: Fm: Surpringsly,Even on The Low End in Stereo Mode,The 515 Was the clear Winner,!
I was Really Surprised How Well The 515 Sounded,The 575 is Def one of My Fav's For Fm Listening,But This 515 The Sound Was Just Awesome,This is the area where This Box Shines,Fm Dxing is Not Easy But The dynamic Range and Clarity of The 515 Beats The 575!
Am and Sw:
This Was NO CONTEST! The 575 Has Superior Sensitivity,Selectivity, and For Dxing on Both Am,and Sw,Beats The 515. The Am Tuner on The 575 is EXC. I pulled in Wsm in Nashville,Wcbs in NYC,Loud And Clear,The 515 Just Could Not Pull The Dx In These Stations Had alot of Static
Overall: Clear Winner is The 575. I figured as Much Before Hand But For The $30 I Pd at Goodwill,The 515 Deserves alot of Praise Especially For The Awesome Sound on Fm.
Sharp really Went The Xtra Mile with Both of These,They Earn The Phrase From Sharp Minds Come Sharp Products. LOVE EM! Cool

we dont have goodwill here.
we do have the salvation army. back in the summer i got to visit the distribution center for the lower mainland here. it was about twenty thousand sqaure feet.
so the thing was when i was there they had skids and skids and skids of electronics just wrapped up. i asked what was going on with them and the guy told me they just sell them bulk now for the raw materials. i felt like throwing up. i mean i asked him if he realised how much money some of that stuff was worth.
he said yes i know but its just not worth our time to go through it all.
most of the stuff that is bigger gets picked up by a truck and taken to the distribution center.
the stores still get donations dropped off to them and they sell the electronics that appear to be working. if there is a fault tho now it gets put in a box for recycling.
i spoke to the fellow at the distribution center even going so far as to ask him if they had considered opening stores which just sold vintage electronics.
he basically just blew it off.
i think now that raw materials have plummeted there will be more old electronics showing up at the thrift stores again.
they try to play it off as being good for the enviroment, but i see nothing good for the enviroment taking something made to last for decades and recyling it into something made to last for two years.
