Conion $$ Wisdom

redbenjoe - 2008-10-30 09:57

free of charge to members ONLY Smile

allow me to offer the following scheme :::

want to save a whopping $350 on your first or next c1oof purchase ??

then consider bidding on the ebay conions that have no deck doors --
lately - they seem to average $400 for a GOOD one.
but a complete nice ebay job WITH the door will get $750 or way more--
----------------
obviously --if the $750 is no problem --or if you KNOW that its a down-the-road $$ resale box --
or if you can only score the type of anal chicks that NEED doors on your decks Big Grin

then -- of course - its always better to have a complete box --

-----------------------------
but to get a 'cheap' conion --and still have 99% of the BIG NOISE , the big fun and the pure glory of owning/showing this very exciting blaster --
then the doorless $400 job is the way to go.

PLUS - even without the correct hardware, etc --you can always make a good looking plexi cover with aluminum trim - soon i will make one --and post some pictures --

perhaps the FATDOG stickers with enhance it Big Grin

finally -- you 'must trust' the all-important fact --that all deck operations will work perfectly without the door !!
its just a 'click-it-in-and-GO' deal--

here area few shots of the very nice c100f i got from good guy skippy yesterday --
one shot is in record --and the next is FF-

poor skippy couldnt score even one decent chick without the door -- but i am planning on at least 1/2 dozen by this weekend Laugh Out Loud

fatdog - 2008-10-30 10:01

Congrats, Ira! I'm sure the poonanny will be beating down your aluminum door once they feel the vibrations that the Conion produces. Laugh Out Loud

Instead of labels, maybe I should have gone into the business of recreating Conion cassette doors. Roll Eyes

kid.sensation - 2008-10-30 10:02

If i recall right someone ( i think NED ) fitted a 777-door into a conion and it looked even nicer than the original in my eyes.

apart from that:

great score Ira and a nice story.

good luck with the chicks Big Grin

redbenjoe - 2008-10-30 10:14

kid --one day -- when you get to visit florida --
-let me introduce you to my local seminole indian tribe --
they have some very helpful old sayings regarding luck with chicks with conions without doors Big Grin

-----------------------
and thanks alot for that ned idea --will post it in the want forum in a moment !!

so- in the meantime --

Ira, another thing came to my mind.

henry posted up 3 777's for sale in the 4-sale area. The 3rd one he offered for spares or just single spares if i recall right.
( here )

You might ask him about one door?

redbenjoe - 2008-10-30 10:48

endo -- i will post pictures of the whole big thing Smile tonight on the skippy feedback thread --

and kid -- i will PM to henry now --
after all - i am so 'in' with henry --

tied for his eighth biggest customer !! Laugh Out Loud

redbenjoe - 2008-10-30 16:08

KS -- are you around this thread Smile

i was gonna send you a PM -- to thank you for both the ned idea and then the henrytai lead -

but instead -- i want the entire public s2g forum to know exactly how cool you are!!

a few minutes after to told me henry might have the 777 door --we exchanged PMs and its now on the way Big Grin

your timing was perfect --as this was his last door--

anyhow -- this major 3 country transaction was all thanks to YOU Smile Smile Smile

kid.sensation - 2008-10-30 16:21

Im glad it worked out Ira Smile

It's a pleasure for me to help other members !
I hope NED will get around soon too to maybe give tips and instruction on how to insert/modify that door..But im shure you will get it working on yourself Wink

good luck!!

redbenjoe - 2008-10-30 16:48

Ned made a post last month -that he was moving all the way to australia --but hope he gets set up and back on here.

I Agree --we all have learned from his posts.

skippy1969 - 2008-10-30 17:07

That looks like it will work great. Nod Yes

gluecifer - 2008-10-30 17:20

This replacement door stuff is brilliant. I was planning to see if I can easily fabricate one based on a friends who's missing it locally.

But, then again I really like the whole urban mythos of the reason they were ripped off in the first place, which is a real piece of 'radio history' to me as modifications like that, on such a wide scale, aren't very common as a world-wide trend, especially from that time in history. I'm an old romantic though and probably think far too much about how all the scratches and dings on my radios occurred in their glory days.

Top work on working out a custom soloution though, I'm very excited to see what eventuates.

Rock On.

oldskool69 - 2008-10-30 19:00

Way to go Ira! Haven't had time nor money to peruse boxes lately. So I live vicariously for now through ya'll! Big Grin

redbenjoe - 2008-10-30 19:05

hey oldy --welcome back !!
you might want to check out skippys feedback --
as somehow Smile
YOU got involved Laugh Out Loud

ford93 - 2008-10-30 19:10

Looks cool with the 777 door. Cool

redbenjoe - 2008-11-14 14:22

wisdom update --
it turns out , that only the skanky chicks were impressed with the big hole 'no door' look Smile

so --in the interum --while awaiting henrytais gf 777 door -- this 25 cent piece of bronze tinted plexi --served well as the temporary door cover.
in the right light (picture doesnt show it)--it is a see-thru --and looks pretty good::

--then - a few days ago -- when the complete, nice gf777 door arrived --it needed to be trimmed on 3 sides to fit (as neds)--

and could not bear to hack up (bandsaw) a good original grail door Smile

SO --for now --using an old sony door --which fit perfectly --and required just an 1/8 inch of internal trimming --

so the point of this story --still remains :
we dont all need to spend the $$ fortune it takes to buy complete-with-door conions

skippy1969 - 2008-11-14 15:22

WOW!!!! that looks great Ira. Eek I never knew a sony CFS400 was that big and that boombox looks suspiciously like a Conion, what gives??????? Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud
