Sharp GF990G.

Looks like a really nice box. What is the sound like ? and general functions/use ? What is the tray at the bottom actually for ? is it of any use ? Sorry for all the questions I've got one coming my way soon.

skippy1969 - 2008-01-23 05:35

The tray on the bottom is used to store the keyboard/synithisizer.[URL=[URL=http://imageshack.us]

Hi docs,

I can't really answer your questions, because I'm not familiar with this model...but I would like to say congratulations! Best wishes for its' safe arrival. Smile

appleknocker - 2008-01-23 12:20

Hey Docs, Congratulations!I have one of those. You will like it a lot I think. It has really great sound, good tuning, taping, all around very nice.
I have no musical talent at all, so I can't do anything with the keyboard, but it is cool for sure. My little girl plays it and makes tapes of her own songs. She has had much fun with it. I have wondered if someone with musical ability could create anything cool on it. But my guess is the keyboard is basically a toy.

can you post a close up picture of that keyboard. i mean i am curious to how it is laid out and what functions it has.
if you get a change i wouldnt mind seeing a close up of the keyboard. if its not a bother.

cheers bill

Well it arrived today very safe and sound and well packaged. And what a very nice box it is. I think the sound on this unit is very clear with good bass and nice clear high points. Once I've got the elbow grease into it i'll get some pics on and bill no problem I'll try to get a decent close up of the synth for you tomorrow.

fatdog - 2008-01-25 12:47

That little keyboard reminds me of a TB-303. Too bad it's not one! Sweet looking box.

masterblaster84 - 2008-01-25 12:49

Nice Docs Cool, I've been wondering how good this box was since I first saw one a couple of months ago. Keep us posted.

appleknocker - 2008-01-25 13:52

here is a close up of the keyboard photo from mine. I am not even sure how to operate many of the functions

billpc55 - 2008-01-25 15:02

what a bizzare little keyboard. i am guessing it has five voices maybe piano guitar flute and a couple others and that is it. i bet it sounds pretty funny in a good way tho. the drum sounds must be white noise and some really basic other sounds. seems like there is a very basic step sequncer some how in there . i would not be surprised if it was designed by roland. i mean it does have some things about it wich do seem kind of like the way they used to do things.

arkay - 2008-01-26 06:07

That box is up near the top of my "Wanted" list. Love that keyboard built into a box like that! Probably won't compete with a Roland or Korg or Moog, but in a BOOMBOX?! That's just too different, too cool!

docs - 2008-01-26 07:23

Thanks appleknocker, here are a few further pictures of the keyboard.

I didn't think the GF-990 looked that good at first, but that picture which skippy posted shows the 'box in all it's glory. Cool

Gorgeous!! A work of art! '80s HEAVEN! Eek I want one - RIGHT NOW!! Big Grin Is it a one-piece or a three-piece? Please, let it be a one-piece! Smile

docs - 2008-01-26 08:19

Sorry RA to dissapoint you it is a 3 piece. However, I agree this box is definately up there, it is a very nice unit overall.

beatbox - 2008-01-26 09:02

That is well sweet!

I passed one up a couple of weeks ago from the flea market. He wanted 75 euros for it. Maybe I should have gone for it.

Anyway well done!!

moncheeto - 2008-01-26 09:15

Thanks Geoff and everyone for the positive comments, I agree I'm not taken aback too much by 3 piece sets but seeing as it is a Sharp and an odd one at that with great sound I just couldn't resist. There are separate phono and line in inputs on the rear just in case anyone was curious.

Here are a couple more pictures so you can see it's size in comparison to the VZ and the Unisef behind.

geoffhartwell - 2008-01-26 10:05

yer good size box, looks very clean to docs. nice shots of clean washing to Laugh Out Loud

docs - 2008-01-26 10:08

I know Geoff those socks get everywhere, especially with 4 kids around the place Smile

appleknocker - 2008-01-26 15:34

Excellent Docs! Yours looks great! And you take really good pics to go along with it. I don't really collect 3 pieces, but I couldn't resist this one.

billpc55 - 2008-01-26 16:22

thanks for posting the pictures of the little synth.
