Finding Bboxes in Lodon city

bredgeo - 2008-02-02 03:53

Yeah, I got a job at the Shannon airport and I had to go to London for training... When I was there I thought about finding some type of second had type of shop. But being that I do not know London, I did not know where to go. I did find the type of trade sell and buy second hand shops, but it was only for close, LPs, and more cloths.

Does anyone know London and if so could you tell me where to go to find that kind of store/shop for eventual Bboxes.

I am going back to London on the 28th of Feb.

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

Nowhere obvious in London unfortunately... the charity shops generally dont have electrical goods (health and safety madness!) - the places to find boomboxes are car boot sales - generally at weekends and then really only when the weather gets better - Feb a bit early. You need to buy the local paper to find out where these are - not that easy for a quick visit Frown

Yeah Oxfam and the like don't take 2nd hand electrical goods. Apparently it'd put our health at risk.

Yeah....... I found out that it is the same thing here...???

These two governments, English and Irish, freak when it comes to electrical goods and limit the the stores selling any type of electronic goods to specialized stores. This leaves all possible second hand stores only selling women's, children's, and sometimes men's clothes and/or other none Bbox junk (collectible for others, but not us... Big Grin)

That is a BIiTCH!!!!!

Health concerns? What kind? From leaking components, shock, toxic fumes? Confused

It seams to be the "Shock"

Electrical hazard. If a person would get an electrical shock and it goes bad (possible death) only the specialized stores can be liable, there insurance puts that into their contracts, the second had stores don't have that and the person (or their family) would get no help...... Bla, Bla, Bla....

This a second hand store owner in Dublin who told me......

Actually, I hear that's why some of the thrift stores here in the USA won't sell toys. They don't want to be held liable if a kid breaks off a piece and swallows it, or pokes his eye out with it, or... you-name-it. Roll Eyes

By the way, when I was in Ipswich a couple of years ago, I went through some pretty cool charity shops, but - you're right - no electronics. However... I did find a monster-size silver serving spoon from Harrod's for next-to-nothing and a Kristian Leontiou CD. (I've since decided that his songs are great, even tho his album never got released here... EXCEPT that he's the guy who does the music for our latest Toyota Prius commercial, the one with the tag line, "The best impact we can have on the environment is as little impact as possible." I'll bet I'm the only person in Michigan who knows that! Am I cool or what? Cool )

u.k law . . . charity (thrift) stores requires a "certified" electrical technician to "certify" a boombox as "safe " for use

That's one thing that drives me insane, the government trying to protect us from ourselves. I grew up with Lead tainted toys with tiny parts and I roamed the streets all day having fun. I haven't died or been molested by some older pervert, I haven't choked or been permanently damaged but apparently I would today if it wasn't for my Government and their nine million laws. How about the blood sucking lawyers looking to sue businesses if their coffee is deamed to hot.

OK I'm going to stop now, I could rant on and on about the rediculousness of the current state of civilization.
