Help is a Sony CFS-700 TranSound worth fixing?

marc99 - 2011-03-12 19:18

I purchased a Sony CFS-700 cassette player at the swap meet, but the cassette player is not working.  I was quoted $75 to $135 to fix it.  I cannot find what the Sony CFS-700 is worth and if I should fix it. If anybody has any information on the value of the Sony CFS-700 please let me know.  Thanks for your help.

That seems a little steep.
Did they say what it needed to repair the cassette?

I don't think that is an easy boombox to repair.  You risk breaking or losing something and then forget it -- no shop will fix, or be able to fix it.  If you value it and don't feel comfortable with repairing it -- by all means just pay to have it done.  If you've never rebelted a boombox before, this is not the one you want to start with.  $75 - $125 may sound high.  But keep in mind that we are only talking 1-2 hours shop time at that rate.  If that is an unfamiliar boombox to the tech, it could take a lot longer than that.

Hmmm...just lookin' at that thing, I am inclined to agree with Norm. Just pay to fix it if u really like it and want to keep it. Looks awfully complicated to tear into...hell, I don't even think I could turn it on!!
