Car boot finds today.... :-)

venturesforth2 - 2011-05-01 13:18

A GF777 and a Bombeat, both in need of a jolly good clean. Haven't tested them yet, but we will replace the belts as a matter of course anyway. Sorry about the quality of the photos, iPhone dontyaknow.

Total price for the pair, £18 (about US$27)

lav.loo - 2011-05-06 04:14

absolutely amazin, that tosh is a beauty, congrats fella

venturesforth2 - 2011-05-06 06:50

Well, I just went to visit the boxes today. They're in a shop awaiting servicing and cleaning tomorrow, but I just had to go and pay them a visit

I got a chance to plug them in and both of them work. The 777 even has working tape decks and working dial light, but I'll get them to change the belts anyway as they have lots of belts in stock. The sound is awesome, and a bit of switch cleaner sprayed in the volume pot instantly cured some crackling. I could sit and watch those VU needles move for hours on end...

The Tosh will need a new tape belt, but again, the machine works.

The 777 is attracting a lot of attention in the repair shop. Nobody has ever seen such a monster, and small children are frightened of it

radio.raheem - 2011-05-06 08:37

Hi there..once again big congrats....btw I would contact the shop about the 777 my friend and ask them to clean up those deck idlers...they can actually cause more problems than the belts on this model...and I don't think they can be replaced...but a thourough clean of the idlers will fix the problem....good luck with that man...

davebush - 2011-05-06 09:06

hmmm......deck idlers..........a sticky situation i believe.....done all my sharps.....fairly easy job

litfan - 2011-05-06 09:31

Not in my experience.

Funnily enough, the owner of the shop (a friend of mine) was teaching me how to service video recorders only last week (pensioners still like them) and he showed me how to clean the idlers on those. But thanks for the reminder, I left a note inside the cassette deck for the guy who will be servicing them tomorrow.

litfan - 2011-05-06 14:33

Poor sod.

bredgeo - 2011-05-07 11:02

I will stay amaised on how some can still find GOOD ASS Bboxes at boot sells.... When I was in France it was Nil, now in Ireland it is....... worst than Nil....

Good score with those two, for sure!!!!!

isolator42 - 2011-05-24 04:50

Bloody hell, those 2 for £18?

I should buy a lottery ticket if I were you, it's clearly your lucky week

When the 777 is back & fully working you could make a huge profit if you wanted to. If you do, give me a shout
