Is the Hitachi 8110E a good item to start with .I do have an old Sanyo C30 in mint condition.I `m thinking of buying the Hitachi to clean up repair. It is only cheap, so not too bad if it is poo.

Remember what i said to you well forget that...just buy it...At the end of the day it's a good learning curve...If you break it well that's no biggie and you may learn something..

ive had an 8020 a while ago plus virtually every other hitachi under the sun.i believe the 8110 is a late seventies/early eighties model-fairly well screwed together and pleasent enough looking but hitachis hardly ever sounded that great and they never won the battle with sharp/panasonic/aiwa and sanyo and the like to build fabulous looking boxes.i think hitachis were more "for the masses" myself........built a bit cheaper so they were a bit cheaper for the customer.....that said, some hitachis were cool......i have a rare 1981 mini hitachi (think its a trk 6100 or something like that) and it sounds great and looks good too-even has a 5 point led meter on it.....then of course theres the 9300/9150/8600 that were either great looking or great sounding too.....after about 1984 hitachis started sounding and looking very plasticky.....until the advent of the first 3d's in 1986.believe me,i know a lot about hitachis......nearly as much as isolator on here!
