davebush - 2011-06-19 09:12

well done b

bison - 2011-06-19 09:53

thanks dave, think i need to invest in some decent cleaning kit lol

lav.loo - 2011-06-19 09:57

ye congrats love the fergy mate

bendycat - 2011-06-19 09:58

I guess a lot of boxes found at carboots were old builders and painters - as most have nicotine and paint splashes and you can find some times where they have left a fag buning on the box, melting it in a place

i would also say that it's only that people need cash more than ever, that boxes are still turning up and have not just been thrown away to the bin or dumps, like in the 90's

some sweet looking boxes there and worth the hard work cleaning then up for a fiver each - plus when they do come up sweet it makes all that hard work worth it

cheers B

bison - 2011-06-19 10:07

cheers fellas, yeah its definately worth the elbow grease, not tackled any internals in my collection yet, wouldnt no where to start.

ffatlac3 - 2011-06-19 13:20

ghettoman - 2011-06-19 13:49

Bison, that bush one at the top,i'm sure i saw that on a car boot on saturday,Hint-near eastlands  i remember very clearly them V.U needles,i saw it but never bought it,there was also a sharp mono box aswell on the same stall, the market where i go its very rare to see boxes on there, last nice box i got off there was in around the late 90s,it was a JVC PC11,nothing since..but i dont only go for that,we just go for a walk round,i dont think there is any other decent booty markets on a saturday near me,if i had some land of my own i'de get a massive one going,7 days a week

Yea paul...any 80's boomer and you can set up your stall free...not bad...mmm7 days a week thats gunna be a few boxes lol,,,,

Back to the fergy....it looks cool...if only the tape buttons were on the front....i nearly bought the one on ebay but the button thing put me off....congrats tho any box for cheap these days and your onto a winner...

bison - 2011-06-19 16:19

your right beanie man,i bought the sharp too but its very shabby, you must have been there early,i was there early,he wanted a tenner but i beat him down cos it wouldnt play tapes, ive seen loads on there over the years and kick myself when i think about that crown box with the leather strap...which was also bought from there about ten years ago,i need software to get the pics off my old laptop.

bison - 2011-06-19 16:25

the bush sounds great had it on tonight for an hour, the fergy has some crackling issues with the volume.

ghettoman - 2011-06-19 16:37

ha yes i cant remember exactly what time i got there, probebly got there for about 9am-10am but not sure,i dont really buy any boxes off there unless they'r holey grail types, and i very much doubt i will find any of those on there,so i think your quite safe,i wont snatch any of your finds mate

that same stall had a Hitachi 3d super woofer,it sat there for weeks unsold,i never bought that either, like i say i wont buy stuff like that because i've been through that "buy any box" stage of my life,i used to do it at one time but i dont anymore..so now i am very selective these days..i've even took boxes down there and gave them to stalls, just boxes i did'nt want, its better than me throwing them,a couple of months ago i took a clairtone and a sharp GF5454 and gave them to a guy on a stall,if i would have known you i would have met you on there and gave them to you instead ..but its good that you are buying them, recycling and keeping those boxes going,as for repairing,i think it wont be long before you'll be changing belts and fixing them up,we all start at the bottom mate

thanks mate, smithfield too is on my list, but i havent had the chance to get down on a sunday for ages,i live in south manchester now but grew up round there.

this side of town has nothing except the odd charity shop

ghettoman - 2011-06-19 17:03

hey i was at smithfield a coupla weeks ago, thats where i saw a philips D8444,i never bought it because it looked like it had been pulled out of a canal or a river, the speaker grill on the front was rusty as hell, speaker cones had been soaked and had all collapsed and there was holes in them, propper mess so i walked away,i have never really ever seen any boxes on there either and i used to go every week and used to get there for about 7.30-8.00,still nothing..i dont go anymore..but what you find now is that there is alot of africans go there and get there for 5.30-6.00,they have even been known to help unload the stall holders vans for them, they go to all the electrical stalls and buy up everything working or not, then they will fill there vans up to the full and they go and fill containers up and ship them all to africa, and i got told that it all gets sold at the docks at africa when the ship pulls in..alot of stuff is going there now mate..i actually had an african neighbor and we became friends, and he used to send containers over,i gave him a few electrical bits and bobs that i did'nt want..i even gave him a couple of old laptops, they worked but they were old..

andyboombox - 2011-06-20 03:11

ive had both of those, nice and well made little boxes, and good sound too-they arent a million miles away from each other in style and spec either are they?well found at the carboot though-my mate picked me up a gf8989 yesterday for 5 quid-havent seen it yet but he reckons after a clean it will be mint...........had a GF6060 off him last week too.....then found a gf555 at the recycling centre.....is it just me or has commercial interest in boxes finally started to die down again,as there have been none in pop videos/tv ads etc recently-and it is practically unheard of for me to find so many like this-all i can say is good-give us box collectors a chance to finally get some!!!!!

andyboombox - 2011-06-20 03:18

hey beanie man, your point about the africans buying them too is true around here, but people are getting wise to their scams and not letting them have them, which is probably why i/my two mates are finding them there again-trouble is they went them for a pound here, two quid there, and they go on an on and on till they get what they want.........well sorry but it sucks.and at the end of the day all they do is ship them to ghana or wherever........and smash them up.its one step off criminal.sorry to rant about it but it just yanks my chain a bit.whenever i do my old electrics sorting now with my mate if any boxes turn up-crap or not-i claim them, and they dont even get to the car boot stall he runs.at least they are safe that way.peace.

ghettoman - 2011-06-20 07:20

Andy..Guys...Do you remember a guy called Johnny Boombox ? he was a member here a few years ago,he put up this pic of some of the boxes he had for sale..

Anyhow he said they were for sale, but them boxes in the picture was only a fraction of what he had,i bought that amstrad ghetto off him in his picture (top left) £24 all in.. then Royal (ben) went to meet him at the place where they were stored in essex,Royal said when he walked into the guys barn where they were,he said there was Paletts of ghetto blasters stacked 50 boxes high with cling film wrapped around them, loads and loads of Sharp Vz's,GFs,Aiwa's,Philips,Sony's,Jvc ect..He said there must have been 500 Ghettos in there,he bought a whole bunch of boxes from him,as many as his car would take, next time he contacted him a couple of months later, the guy told him he filled a container and said he sent them to africa and sold them there,i'm not sure how true that is,but i was never able to contact the guy again to ask him..

billy.the.binman - 2011-06-20 08:50

holy crap!   ive got to say i dont remember that one, i was absent from here for a while so probably missed that.

i do remember a guy in america, oldish chap, had a big collection of real nice examples, had photos of them piled high and lined up in the sun on his patio, must have been a good 50+ top notch boxes.   this was around 2004

ghettoman - 2011-06-20 12:50

yep it was true andy lad,i remember having some pm's with litfan about going down there with a van and buying a load, but could'nt get ahold of the guy,and it all fell through, cant remember when it was, because time goes so quick,i could say it was about 4 years ago but it could have been 6 years ago,i've lost all track of time, but yes it was true mate ! maybe richard or ben could say when it was ? any of you guys on here ? richard ?

radio.raheem - 2011-06-20 15:35

Was that the time that royal did the dirty on you paul???if so i remember you telling me a few yrs ago about that...

yeah ive seen the fella,he bought a couple in front of me,early nineties cd/tape things,
it makes sense,a couple of asian guys used to do the same thing with motors of any discription from washing machines to big industrial ones out of the scrap yard i worked at in salford in the early nineties, guess theres a profit to be made.

dont remember seeing any boxes in kenya in 95 when i was there with the army, but we constantly got asked to buy pirated kenny rogers cassettes when in bars and stuff.

No mate, all this shipping has only started in the last few years since the floodgates were opened and we had millions come in,seems that all the world wants to come here,i've no idea why because this country is a dump, bad weather 10 months of the year, expensive to live, high taxes, violence, especially manchester,it has just been rated the most violent city in uk,we are even infront of london and liverpool now..cant understand what everyone see in uk,some say that its because uk is an easy touch on immigration, and that they can claim all benefits and get free housing, medication ect..but i dont know,i dont get involved anymore ..but what i do know,uk's economy is on its knee's,our goverment owes billions/trillions?

andyboombox - 2011-06-23 02:27

no pal i dont remember him,but like bill the binman i was off here for a while, and i would have defo had some of those boxes if id known.......some crackers there......have had a few of them but theres many more there!the pic is great alone!
