Who has a JVC RC-770?

retro.addict - 2011-06-29 14:01

Here's what it looks like...

Are they any good? What's the tuner like on them? Do they have line-in? What are they like to work on?

Also, can anyone tell me if they sound as good as a JVC RC-656?

Thanks.

It has DIN/standby mode on the function selector (see pic below), do you reckon that's line in if you plug something in and maybe press record? Shame to hear about the bad sound, but to be honest I wasn't expecting much. I know it's only a small cheap box.

RADIO RAHEEM: If it's the same one you've seen on ebay, I bought it pretty cheap. It looks to be in excellent condition too.

GEOFFHARTWELL: It's got to be worth more than £2.50!!

I asked if it was good on the off-chance that people will say it's quite good, to make me feel a bit better of my purchase maybe, and so I can ready myself for the box. It's a bit of a personal grail for me, as I love it's individual style and unusual layout, and the all important BASS and TREBLE controls!.. But the main reason I wanted one: I have a school geography book which was published in the mid-'80s, and it has a pic of an electrical shop window with boomboxes, this box being one of them in the window. I loved the look of the JVC 770 from that point on. Sad I know (to want a box from a school book!), but I've been after one for ages.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Just picked one of these up at my local charity shop. I thought it was a steal for the 3 quid I paid fot it. Until I got it home and tried it and realised it was not even half as good as it looks might suggest. Very disappointing, this must rate as one of the crappiest JVC boombox's ever made. Oh well.
