which feature!

lav.loo - 2011-06-30 12:56

ok guys, i wanted to do a post on fave box features so here goes.

personally my fave feature has to be the loudness button/switch on a box.

i just love the change in sound when this feature is activated, especially on my d8614, it makes a big difference.

which feature do you guys like best and why?

radio.raheem - 2011-06-30 13:00

One track repeat love it....so far only found on pioneer909 and the box im using right now....panasonic rxc52......yes lav alot ov boxes would sound rubbish without the loudness feature...including the mighty m90

davebush - 2011-06-30 13:28

i like the BAD DOG SWITCH.....thats the one that makes the WOOOOOOFFER work....

radio.raheem - 2011-06-30 13:44

The one that makes her scream....i just love it when shes at her max...(im talking bout the volume) lol

litfan - 2011-06-30 15:11

Auto-reverse. How many good boxes have it though?

ghettoman - 2011-06-30 16:15

my fave auto reverse on any box has to be on either the Jvc Pc55,or the Pana dt680,i love both boxes, and the sound is so nice..

As for loudness, its a good feature on all boxes exept the lasonic 975,that box actually sounds worse with the loudness on,its too effective and spoils the sound..

I always thought weighted flywheel tuning provided a quality tactile feel found mostly in home components back then. Anything to boost those lower frequencies whether it's loudness, super-bass, x-tra bass etc. Auto reverse was a convenient feature, but I never used it due to the loss of high frequencies on one channel at times when playing in reverse. When it came down to aesthetics, large chrome dustcaps were my thing.

...the recording level, because i always liked to adjust it when recording, so it played back the loudest possible at normal levels with a good  high bias tape...

ghettoman - 2011-07-01 03:49

Well this maybe a bit contoversial on this site, but i like detachable speakers, simply because they give the speakers there own chamber, making for better sound..to me,the only one piece boxes that give good bass are GF999 and superjumbo, and GF9696,Aiwa Tpr 950,and for others it would be the obvious M90,but most of my other one pieces struggle to give a good bass boom, the best 3 piecers for bass is like i said many times,Jvc pc5,pc55,Pana dt680,and maybe the Amstrad 8090

Proper aux-in.

I know it's sacrilage, but i was glad to see the back of cassettes, with their alignment,  tape type, dolby issues & say nothing of how easy they were to damage.

ghettoman - 2011-07-01 05:14

Iso,i'm totally with you on the proper aux,and i wish sharp would'nt have had the aux/phono switch on the back, its the biggest faulty thing on sharp boxes, most of all my sharps with the phono/aux switch is faulty, with sound either louder in one channel than the other,or sound only comming out of one speaker and no sound out of the other,i would love to be able to by-pass the phono half and maybe solder links accross the solder joints on the underside of the switch in so its set to aux perminantly, which should cancel the phono half and stop the fault..

i have to admit i do like all mentioned, although there,s one im not familiar with even though i once had the pioneer 909L, and that,s the 1 track repeat which DAVEBUSH mentions, sounds a cool feature

lav.loo - 2011-07-03 05:59

metad - 2011-07-03 07:02

Separate tone controls

brutus442 - 2011-07-03 08:30

For me the Recording Level sliders/ knobs...in conjunction with the LED/ VU meters. It just made me feel like a studio producer...fade in and fade out.

Simple things, amuse simple minds..

bison - 2011-07-03 13:44

for me at the moment its the dsl switch on my aiwa 600,but truth be told it has to be the leds and vu meters like brutus said, guess its cos the box i had back in the day as a kid never had either.

R Raheem, this button is above the cassette area, when you press it down it starts to work as memory, then you stop the tape press rew and it will go back to where you pressed memory.

thats good news about your m90,  hope every thing gets better for you buddy.
