So my box is on its way

sega - 2011-08-03 06:52

I bought an untested Hitachi TRK-8110e, a bit of a risk I know but the photos were clear and it appeared to have been cared for and nothing is missing.

So far Ive downloaded the service manual and purchased a few cassettes and Im curious to what other things I can do, what can be altered and what is its strengths e.t.c.

One thing I wouldnt mind changing is the speaker grills as they arent that pretty tbh.

radio.raheem - 2011-08-03 08:30

Who did you buy it off sega...for the love of god i hope it wasn't cheap as chips.....

sega - 2011-08-03 08:40

Oh s**t it was, whats the issue?

radio.raheem - 2011-08-03 08:48

Im sorry sega to be the bearer of bad news...realy i am...but most of his stuff is irriparable junk.....I have bought a few from him...the only one i have kept is a rare aiwa c100 wich needs a lot of work...the rest went in my shed for parts...we can always hope though....you may be one of the lucky ones..

sega - 2011-08-03 08:57

Hopefully but their office is just a few towns away so if Im messed about I shall do the return in person, it does look looked after though compared to others he had, I chose this over a Sanyo as it looked in better nick. My uncle also told me theres a Hitachi in his garage somewhere that proberly doesnt work anymore which may be able to be a donor, would mean a lot of faffing to find it though as its likely to be buried under car parts.

radio.raheem - 2011-08-03 09:05

Have you got a link lad...to be honest he does say in his listings..sold as faulty...so i new what to expect..and i have no issues with him..you get what you pay for...in this case it is VERY cheap stuff...and it could be a good learning curve for you,,,

one of my aiwa 880's came from him...cost £25...it was bought by another member with good fixing skills...he repaired it and i did a trade with him...it's one mint motha aiwa now and fully working,,,,but like i say you need to have some experience or at least common sense

Here we go, hopefully it should arrive in the next couple of days as Stevenage is close to Watford so Ill be able to tell how it is.

I do have a few things on my side being that I have friends and realitives that can fix things or know people that do.

ascheap-aschips 220822781083 make's for wondering just how much "chip's" are over there?

Nice Looking box, wonder what is wrong with it - guessing that the cassette dont work, but that the radio does

Good afternoon james...          chips where i am are about £3 and we get the real things.....not those horrible sticks that you get over there...

That radio should be an easy repair sega..as it looks basic...as long as it works and you have no blown capasitors, you should be ok....it looks like it needs a damn good clean though

Its not acctually been tested so it has to be sold as faulty, it may be perfectly functional or may be dead as a dodo. If you sell something as a business stating it working it has to have a pat test done on it, doing it this way saves costs and time.

As to chips it was something like £1.80 for a decent sized portion around stevenage,

Yarmouth market is fairly cheap at the various stalls that sell them but thats over 100 miles away atm so Ill just stick with the £1.80 ones.

When I looked at the manual it did look quite basic, the deck is mechanical mostly and other than that you just have the radio, speakers, clock and the LED guage thing and none of those are that complex, cleaning wise Ill proberly do like I do with the consoles and strip it down to deep clean the panels, I need to do similar with the Binatone I picked up as that really is filthy and its deck needs attention as its a tape eater.

radio.raheem - 2011-08-03 13:35

Tape eater....prolly needs a new pinch roller...

sega - 2011-08-04 03:35

I dont know where I would find one, is there a way to bodge it for now?

Its also as dirty as hell in there if thats a possible cause.

sega - 2011-08-04 06:50

It arrived and apart from needing a clean, a new volume dial and a head cleaning cassette ran through it its in good condition, the tape came through a bit quiet but the radio nearly blew me across the floor and its little LED lights still work too.

Im off out in a bit to try and find a cleaner and possibly some more cassettes

I now know where the Blaster part of Ghetto blaster comes from

Another issue I noticed was the carry handles bent out of shape, to bend it back the box will have to be opened up but at the moment its introducing my Neighbours to Dio, RIP RJD
