New to the Board!

choowoo - 2011-09-06 18:55

I didnt know this place existed until about 30 seconds ago!  Pretty excited I stumbled across it.  So ive been lookin for a box for a while now, was just waiting for it to fall into my hands via an onblivious seller from a garage sale, thrift store or whatever.  Today was my day!  Pretty stoked to say the least, but I know nothing about boomboxes as Iam 25 and sorta missed that train.  So today i found, and was given for free, a Soundesign 4622.  I do know that Soundesign was a cheap stereo co.  But thats about it.  It is in great shape, all knobs intact, does not have the AC input cord.  I dont have 6 D batteries laying around so I will report back on whether it works or not.  Either way, stoked!  Can anyone give me any info?  Much appreciated and I am pretty sure I just opened a new door to another collecting addiction.  Lookin forward to hear from you cats.

Welcome to the board, ChooWoo!

The nicest finds are often the ones that fall into your lap, especially for cheap.  Soundesign didn't have the greatest rep in the '80s but it's a nice start and the quality is better than most portable stereos you can buy today.  This brand was huge at US discount department stores like Zayre, Caldor and K-Mart.  I'm guessing yours was manufactured sometime around '84 or '85 or so.  Test it out, clean it up and enjoy it.

Try to get a couple of AC cords.  I'm guessing your Soundesign will use a cord like this one:

Does your's Sounddesign 4622 ChooWoo; Look like this one ?

This also look's like some of the Earlier Well Made

and Solid General Electric's that are older - though

Not really Hi-Fidelity boombox's but Still Very

Portable and having a Pleasing sound to them.

I use the cable off my Sega Saturn to run my boxes, you should be able to find one in any hardware/electrical store as alot of things use that type of cable.

Im gonna try a radio shack, or just go to a thrift store and ask if i can buy the cord off of an old VCR or whatever.

My local thrift/second hand shop keeps a box full of them!  Any shops like that near you?  Probably a good place to look.

hey talking of game consoles,i just bought a origonal xbox, chipped with 160 games for £50..

sega - 2011-09-08 13:42

Thats not too bad, chipped ones still hold their value, how much has been done to it?

bison - 2011-09-08 13:52

still got my chipped ps2 and xbox and all the games, grey mare lane was/is the place to buy copies,i dust em off every now and then, has it got the mame arcade emulator with it for xbox BM? if not i can do you a copy its mint.

ghettoman - 2011-09-08 14:31

i got a chipped ps2,and i got a ps2 netork adaptor, then fitted a 160gb hard drive in to my ps2,stored about 50+ games on it,but i actually got about 70-80 games altogether,i put a disc in my ps2 called HD Advance, that fires the hard drive up,then i just click what game i want to play, the games load straight off the hard drive, saves the laser..

hey bison,i got mame cd,but for the pc,its got about 1000 arcade games on it like origonal arcade space invaders,pacman,galaxian,scramble,pheonix..loads of games.. also got snes emu and lots of roms and sega mega drive and lots of games..

sega - 2011-09-09 08:01

I dont bother with the CD's for emulation on the PC as its all on the net for free, Ive never chipped any of my machines although I thought about getting the saturn done as it would mean I could run Homebrew games off CD-Rs.

A teacher at school had a chipped Xbox with HD change and it had a few games installed on it that you could play if you didnt have work to do, the guy was kind of an a-hole though.

never had one or experienced a xbox or a ps2 or any computer games except whatever came the with the computer ( Hearts or spades )  and only ever played online games on facebook ( mafia wars ) ( cafe world ) that's it or all!!!

I find that I get too lazy sitting around playing these, time passing; time consuming; game's online, as i would rather interact with real live people and their Music or mine, so that is why We; ( when she is here ) are outside most of the time except when it is raining with the laptop's and Victor (JVC) RC-550 connected to my laptop ( she wear's earphone's with her laptop )

or we go riding - where she wants to go otherwise am just here speaking cassette boombox till they are all gone!
