ghettoman - 2011-09-09 08:47

1000s ? but how many have survived, and worse, wonder how many are still getting thrown away and trashed ? i often do wonder..

What stands in their favour now is that they are more robust than current boxes and they have also had a revival like the games machines in popular culture.

Being that there are parts of the world where CD's just arent an option I would guess there are millions left.

but just think of the 90's and early 2000, when sheds, garage, loft, basement were all cleaned of boxes to make way for small mini/midi hifi's and mp3 players

the dumps/recycle centres must have seen some great boxes just get thrown out and lost forever

painters and decorators took a lot of the big boxes to have as a work radio and then when splashed with paint and sh*t, then thrown away

if the boxes are still turning up weather the 80's craze is around or not will still to be seen - or will every thing be found and only collectors and greedy ebayers trade them around ?

hhmmm...........i often wonder how many are still going strong in like factory`s and workshops all over the world...........un beknown to the owner of thier value

Ive seen them not in the hands of collectors, the amount that do get destroyed when sent to a dump/recycler is quite suprising, theres many cases where they have been dug out, cleaned up and sold on, some of which you will see on ebay UK right now.

All you need is to be able to perform a PAT test and you are able to sell them as a business in the UK.

Yes alot may have met their end in the 90's and in the 00's but if you take into the account all the places in the world where old tech is still common and stuff gets patched up rather than disposed of then the number isnt quite so worrying.

Workers boxes dont always get binned, the Panasonic I have belonged to a work man and Ive seen stuff in my Dads work that basically is used until it works no more, atm one guy has a one speaker box (forgot what it was) thats definately 80's and in one of the units is a 90's Sony, one guy did have a box similar to my Hitachi but I dont know if he is still there and which unit he works in.

I dont think we are down to thousands just yet as the market is still thriving but at the rate things are going it may well be down to those numbers in a few years.

yeah i often wonder how many is left, where they all are,bet there is alot of people got them in their houses and dont know what they have,i bet there could be loads of people e.g neighbours or people in your area with ghettos, even older folk that bought them years ago in the 80s,its mind blowing thinking about it..

I have two computer's of data, with lost data in between them ( during that time grr ) - OF just Where is Everything - then moved to a Larger place - and that data had to be re-done - then it got lost or destroyed & then is being redone or contuniually being updated presently ...

and I am still finding stuff, and or know that I have stuff and cannot find it

Plus i bought some bbx's ( big one's ) - cause I didnt think I had them in here..

one only to discover in months later that I did...

and that's the story here ...

aaaaaannnnd It's almost all for sale...cept for a few less than ten or so...

my local recycling centre used to be a place where you could snaffle stuff, but now you theres a container for small electrical appliances, carpet, wood, glass, etc etc and you throw the stuff down into the container so theres no way back,if all dumps are gonna end up like this then the numbers will dwindle, half the stuff on ebay is straight outa dumpton,

its all about cost being cost effective in recycling, you wont believe the stuff ive seen yards away being crushed.
