I treated myself to a little toshiba auto-reverse box. I had one, as a scrapper, and, was alway`s amazed how well made it was. This one is like new. Love it.

brigadier.vytas - 2011-09-11 04:35

Do not like 3piecers at all, but  bought this Radiotehnika ML 6201 a month ago anyway. This is very heavy (10kg without batt.) and great sounding unit. Made in Latvia in 1986:

actually, it is a 5piecer:]

A russian clone, released only in 1990 under "Aelita" name:

litfan - 2011-09-11 04:37

Erm .

brigadier.vytas - 2011-09-11 05:04

erm whut?

bredgeo - 2011-09-11 05:16

In Latvia... In 86... COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

brigadier.vytas - 2011-09-11 06:32

Radiotehnika is still manufacturing acoustic HiFi systems:

walkgirl - 2011-09-11 06:37

That is a really nice radio!!

litfan - 2011-09-11 06:54

Sorry, but IMHO, it`s crap. You must forgive my straight talking, i can`t help it.

ao - 2011-09-11 07:33

Is that thing really brown?

brigadier.vytas - 2011-09-11 08:34

Yes, it is, Agent.

Even i do not know- is it more ugly, or nice. I don't even know, where to keep it. Sometimes maybe other things are winning against clear mind - i just really like our neighbour Latvia. Also, i remember when i was a little kid, my classmate's parents bought such radio, - boy, how we were jelous..Me and other kids could just stare at such bbx even without playing music on it! These were difficult times:/. U could not just go and buy everything u wanted. I remember, how my mother was standing in a queue of about 100 people - a greengrocery have just received some bananas. At the same time i was standing in a queue for new ice cream. I took a last one, and left about 10 people behind me with nothing:]. Btw, this Radiotehnika in 1986 costed  675 rubels, when average salary was about 300. More pics:

You're wrong, in 1986 average salary was about 150 (...maybe 170) rbls per month.

LOL  you've got the taste, Litfan

litfan - 2011-09-11 11:08

It`s brain damage metad. I tend to say what i think, damn the conseqences. I went to see the brain surgeon, last week. First thing i said to him was "get your bloody hair cut" Luckilly, he laughed it off. Some people take it very seriously, i have to try and be careful what i say. People that know me, are shocked at the transformation in me. If you like the radio man, that`s all that matters.

litfan - 2011-09-11 11:17

Cheers bro. Radios forever .

ghettoman - 2011-09-11 11:18

isolator42 - 2011-09-12 23:43

Last boomer I bought was the Sony CFD-5 in Feb 2010:

still looking for somewhere in the house to use it...

Interesting... The only thing that does not seem to be "TOP" in this unit is the plastics/metal used. It seems (from the pics) like they used the lower class materials from the cheap quality crap, of latter part of the 80s, cassette radio players.

3.db - 2011-09-17 03:08

This thing:

3.db - 2011-09-17 03:16

Has a great radio section that will hold up to some of my best long-range radios.

It sounds good at a low volume too, but distorts quickly past about 3/10. Turn down the bass and it's alright, though.

Strangely they put a lot of effort into the radio, but not much into the tape deck. It has track find, but no crome or dolby switches. Very little wow and flutter, tough. It's stable and sounds alright, but I'm surprised that it's type 1 non-Dolby only.

I think I've found a new favorate.

bredgeo - 2011-09-17 07:13

GE.... Mid, late 80s?

3.db - 2011-09-18 04:32

Hmmm. Date code 6427, though I have no idea what that means. It's pre-Thompson and built on Hong Kong, anyway. Possibly one of the last. After they took over RCA and started manufacturing stuff in Malaysia the quality took a nosedive. They stared skimping on quality.

This one has the same six gang open air tuning capasitor (tuned radio frequency front-end) and long 8 inch AM antenna as the 7-2880 "Superadio". Those were in production from 1979 - 1986. The "Superadio II" (1987 - 1991) had a slightly diffrent capasitor.

Becouse of that my best educated guess would be 1985 or 86.

bredgeo - 2011-09-18 05:01

I would have to say, that would have been my guess as well... I has that mid 80s trim/look/finish already... Not as attractive as the predecessors in the same range.

erniejade - 2011-09-18 09:05

I havent picked one up in a while....  I think the last one i picked up was a Sanyo 9998.

Ge had a few good 3 piece units.  One i cant remember the model but it had yellow ish looking woofers.
