Number 4 bought, Booooom!

thebeardedlady - 2011-09-10 04:35

Ahoy,

Number 4 has been purchased today and im quite pleased with it! I posted an add on a local classifieds asking for boxes (as mentioned before its slim pickings up here) and this is the only thing that turned up. Its a little newer than I was after but now I have received it the looks have grown on me, it looks better in person than in pictures I think...just the right side of retro. I was also really surprised by the weight and the sound of it! She sounds good!!!

As can be seen in the pictures she needs a little work, speakers dented, needs a clean, crackly volume, slow to pick up cds, Tape deck A buttons dont work.....but with a little work she'll be sparkling once again!!

So without further adoo i present to you....

The JVC RC-X510!!!

The slow to pick up CD's can mean your laser is on its way out, crackly volume is proberly just dirty contacts.

For the speaker dent you might need to heat it a little, you can only do that though if it is able to come away from the plastic as metal is great at transfering heat, Id avoid beating it into place and just use gentle pressure.

Over all its not too bad, what did you end up paying for her?

sega is prolly right....speaker dent...just take the front off remove the speaker...and push from the inside....had one...nice and bassy...passed it on to a friend,,,

thebeardedlady - 2011-09-10 04:58

Yeah i can sort the speaker dents no problem.

I paid £15, possibly a little on the high side but i got a bit excited at the thought of another box.  If I can get her all ship shape it'l be worth it.

!5 quid is ok man...i remember these £199 new in the mid 90's...btw congrats dude

yes, strip it apart man, clean it up,she should come up clean..its only cosmetic work that it needs,it should keep you busy for the day, keeps the bordem away..

thing is when your cleaning and fixing a box, sometimes you can get carried away, you start at about 12 noon, next thing you know its midnight and your still at it,but you can get so engrossed into it,you forget about the time,i've done it many times..sometimes when i get carried away i'm still there at 4am,sun comming up and birds tweeting outside lol..

I managed that the other day with that coke can walkman, just didnt want to go right so I sat there fettleing and swearing until it did and got into bed at 4:30

ghettoman - 2011-09-10 06:25

ha ha same as me sega..i do it all the time, wether i'm fixing a ghetto,a laptop or anything,i just refuse to give up until i complete the task..its good though once you can relax knowing the jobs done, its great..
