Hey ira.

litfan - 2011-10-10 14:33

How ya doin buddy? Just wanted to ask, what you thought of your bombeat 40? I stiil maintain, it`s one of the nicest sounding radios. Those 8" woofers sound gorgeous. You are one of the lucky owners.

redbenjoe - 2011-10-10 15:43

hi rich -

as you can well quess - i feel like its a huge honor -

just to have it --and stare at it !!

its freekin gorgeous

3 members over 5 months contributed LOTS of their time

to make it mint looking and it works like NEW -

norm even re-capped it --

the results are so perfect --that its the ONLY box

i dont use much --its WAY up on the top shelf

as for the sound -

yes- i love to hear it -

but the tosh S90 surely sounds just as nice

in a different way..

comparing it the m90 is more fun -

the tosh 40 seems to have a deeper bass-

but alot less amp power

i adore all 3 !!!!

redbenjoe - 2011-10-10 18:09

hey rich -

now ask about my aiwa 980 !!!

davebush - 2011-10-10 22:52

radio.raheem - 2011-10-10 23:22

When I first got on here, whilst professing not to be a collector, the only 2 boomers I *really* wanted were the M90 & this Toshiba. It looks bloody fantastic & when I found out it sounds great too, I wanted one even more.

Then, when I found out they are rarer than rocking horse cr4p, I heaved a big sigh & gave up.

No-one selling one, is there?

redbenjoe - 2011-10-11 06:45

turns out -

the tosh 40 is not so ultra-extreme rare..

in the last 6 months --3 were found in the wild

australia, brazil & canada

isolator42 - 2011-10-11 08:04

Nothing in Europe then. Or the UK. Well, specifically, near London

litfan - 2011-10-11 08:31

As you say ira. The s90, sounds different, a bit sweeter. The 40, just belts it out. When i was chatting to the guy from toshiba. He was ultra amazed, i had a bombeat 40. Apparently, the silver colour one, was for the UK only, as, black wasn`t a good seller. Makes you wonder, how many are left in the UK. I mentioned before, the guy i bought it off, had it for 7 years. All the aluminium trim was scratched, with names etc, the rec lever was snapped off, the allen bolts that hold the front casing on were missing, there was a huge gouge in the tuner window. Dirt in the speaker enclosures, had built up half way. Luckilly, i had a scrap tpr990, and, the cassette door allen bolts fit the tosh perfectly. An old lever was super-glued onto the deck. Gouge was polished out (slowly, over a month), Scratches on the top alminium, were covered with aluminium tape. Once that tape is on, it`s on. New belts were fitted. Believe it, or not. This box uses very thin square section belts, as opposed to flat, so, there is a touch of wow and flutter. Still, nothing major.

redbenjoe - 2011-10-11 10:51

all these recent tosh 40 finds have been black -

the silver is so rare -

that i thought it was a one-off factory gift or prototype

litfan - 2011-10-11 12:00

That would have been a find, if it was a one off ira. I was in touch with a guy from that boombox shop in japan. He was saying, the 40 was not sold in japan. They redesigned it for the japanese market, as the s90. The speaker layout is the same, except, for woofer size. I would have liked to have seen the sellers wife saying "get rid of that piece of rubbish. I keep tripping over it" .

chris69 - 2011-10-11 13:09

That Toshiba Bombeat 40 is one of the most beautful boombox radio's i've ever seen! Congrats on owning such a rare and beautiful radio

redbenjoe - 2011-10-11 13:43

What boombox is on the bottom of the first pictureabove?, dont recognise that, and or it is rare?

redbenjoe - 2011-10-11 13:52

toshiba s90

litfan - 2011-10-11 13:53

Does it have a dial light ira? Amazing to think. Basically, it`s the most basic box, with the flimsiest deck, with good electronics. and 8" woofers, and THE LOOK.

redbenjoe - 2011-10-11 14:35

rich,

the cool blue tuning dial lamp was a custom add-on

There beutiful redben,,,,my question was...how good is the crown 970 compaired to them in sound...1 of the many things a member diddn't mention about my 970 was that it was almost dead on 1 of the channels...so im still yet to hear the 970

redbenjoe - 2011-10-11 21:01

RR -- the 970 has a very beautiful sound --

and when boxes get THIS GOOD -

like an m90, s90 , T40 & 970 --

the sound comparos are just whatever we prefer-

ie --its all subjective

radio.raheem - 2011-10-12 10:23

Thanks ira....from what i heard of the crown when i had it, on one speaker she actually sounded better than my m90 lad...but i think the caps need doing on the 90

litfan - 2011-10-12 11:28

You two need a sony cfs-f40. There will be no talk of m90`s killing other boxes then. Get on to yahoo japan, there is usually loads for sale.
