ao - 2011-12-21 13:06

How interesting, i love to see these things in the wild.   The Sanyo looks interesting.

retrodos - 2011-12-21 13:15

That sanyo and one ugly boombox that looks like a keyboard on the controls look interested, how much were they asking for them?

driptip - 2011-12-21 13:21

yes, the mono black sanyo is cool, look 70's,

oops! took another look and is not mono, hehehe

bison - 2011-12-21 13:23

makes me wish for carboot weather, love the hunt just as much as my boxes

deech - 2011-12-21 13:24

I just met a very nice person there who didn't allow me to take photos of his store.

I asked him nicely to go to the basement just to take a look at his stock and forunately

there i was looking at some beutiful machines which i never saw before!

My attention was captured by a JVC RC 838 Biphonic and a LANICA(What is this?)

that looked like a Lasonic jumbo 975.

Anyway he was asking me if i worked for television or i if iwanted to rent one for movie purposes.

deech - 2011-12-21 13:41

@retrodos

For the sanyo they were asking 5 euros

Top or First Picture in this thread - is a

Sharp Twin Mechanism Dual-Cassette Mini-Boombox

...a bit dusty it is ...

ghettoman - 2011-12-21 18:17

that sanyo is a C30,i used to have one until a few months ago,i gave it to a friend, they are "ok" but the speakers cant take shit, they start to distort way too much, they dont give any bass they just pap and fart,i was going to do a speaker change but i could'nt find any to go in,i think they were an awkward size,i think with some beefier bass it would have sounded good, that keyboard one i think is a silver,i knew someone that had one years ago, they dont sound very good,i think like the sanyo, the speakers are poor, but they are only a budget box..

Still, those boxes are more than what i've ever seen on a flea market,i never see anything anymore..i think they all go on ebay now, sellers on the flea's are starting to know what they are now and what they'r worth..

isolator42 - 2011-12-22 06:09

That black Sharp Twincam is a WQ-T238.

I bought my girlfriend one for Christmas in 1988.

She must've liked it, as we've been married for 16 years & have 4 wonderful kids

The story: Having been together over a year, we were both at different Universities. I visited most weekends & her current stereo was one of those grim cheapo all-in-one phono systems that sounded woeful & I feared for my cassettes. By the end of the first term I could stand no more & got her a spanking new Sharp WQ-T238 for Christmas. Wierdly, it sounded better thant he one above it in the range (the WQ-T352 which has a seperate woofer inside somewhere & a 'surround' button).

This new Sharp boomer, was much clearer, with better bass & went much louder than her phono system. It made good tape-to-tape copies (for a boombox - the Twincam system being a help here I reckon) & it was portable, of course, & so much more use for those impromptu late night parties in the communal kitchen/dining area of her Halls Of Residence. It went everywhere with us to France, Turkey, etc. in place of my 3D7, because it had a proper CD input for my Discman.

...we still have that boomer

bison - 2011-12-22 08:54

i picked one of those twin deck sharps up last summer for £2,still has the cardboard branding on the speaker grills but is otherwise a bit grubby would clean up though.

ghettoman - 2011-12-22 09:54

i've also had a few of these twin cam thingy sharps, they do go loud and sound surprisingly nice for what they are..

And hey ISO,that is a good story man !! i've still got my boxes that i bought in 1994/95/96..

I love the stories about boomboxes!

This is the right way that these machines should be treated,

with respect. I m pretty sure that anyone here has similar stories to tell like isolator.

This is the meaning of the word ''subculture''.

Because these machines are including memories, music movements ,art, graffiti

and ofcourse special future moments for the true lovers of these machines!

The photo is back from the summer of 2010

The little machine is a Sony CF-350 from the 70s

Its my dads first PROTOBOOMBOX

and still rocks the summers in the backyard !!

Thanks for the replies guys

I remember going off on the train to see Julie on the weekends with a bag of tapes & my trusty Aiwa HS-PX101. If she liked a tape I'd made, we'd play it again with a blank in the other deck dubbing a copy for her.

She got through loads of my TDKs, happy days...

...Now I'm making the mother of all Christmas songs playlists for the kids' iPods. Not much changes, eh?

Like the saying "if these walls could talk"  I always look at my boxes and wonder, what stories they'd tell..?  From the real beat up ones to the pristine, what kind of life they've lived, what parties/experiences they've been on!?

and this topic about Flea markets depresses me, I'm pretty much in a barren wasteland when it comes to finding any type of boombox for sale.. Maybe next summer I'll score at the yard sales..

So far, no one here in the U.S. seems to have picked up on the idea of car boot sales.  Too bad.  They look like flea markets, but without the need for tables or complicated organization, which should make it possible to hold them more easily and frequently.  I think we Yanks are missing out on a good thing.

woodz93 - 2011-12-27 16:34

Had that Sharp Twincam, that was my second boomer. Gave it to my cuz and that was the last i saw of it....

There was a dude that hacked the C30 and put his XM player in it, I am guessing you can put whatever you want in place of the XM player and it'll still work...
