very cute tho.

davebush - 2012-01-25 21:33

lovely........i wan it too

isolator42 - 2012-01-26 00:22

ooh, choice.

Looks like a seperates tape deck crammed into a tiny box, with an amp & speakers.

Way too expensive for me though...

nak.d - 2012-01-26 00:36

At £250 odd to me it's looks a tad over-priced...but still, someone has put in a bid...nice looking unit though.

radio.raheem - 2012-01-26 01:04

beutiful......far to over priced for what it is though....wish i was loaded.(millionare)...id just stick in 5 k....and watch everybody else squirm lol

Not only does this seller choose to 'big up' his item with words like 'legendary' and 'famous' (have any of you heard of this box before?) he's also chosen not to mention that the battery cover is from another unit and it's missing it's cassette door cover.  Combine that with a stupid reserve with his obvious shill bid.

We see so many of these type of auctions, what is the point?  This won't sell and he'll relist it several times until some sucker comes along and buys it for top dollar only to discover that it doesn't work, yada yada yada   zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

radio.raheem - 2012-01-26 02:51

forgive me chris...if indeed these issues with this box are correct as you state...it's not worth £5 just i can't see as stated plenty of times before

chris69 - 2012-01-26 03:24

I seen it as soon as it showed up and his shill bid was very obvious. Not something i would ever pay that kind of $$$ for. Maybe $20 max if i seen it in a yard sale haha!

Interesting unit.  It looks like it sold to someone in Hong Kong, so I'm not so sure it was a shill bid.

I'm not sure what's so surprising about the price, considering its rarity and seemingly higher quality than 99% of boomboxes out there.   Consider that $399 is what some people pay for an RC-838, and I have no doubt this Sony sounds a lot better.

Hell, assuming it was fully intact and fully operational (it isn't), I'd pay more for it than I would for an M90 or GF-whatever.  But that's just me.

That not only rare, but extremely rare, circa 1982 available in Japan only and does have radio, also does 6.5 RMS per channel with cast iron speaker housing and was damper for any noise vibrations and has dolby NR on the cassette with AMS music scan. For it's small size, is a great box and nothing could touch it during it's time. It wasn't made to beat a JVC M90, but more for it compact size.

Fix one for a friend over two years ago and have to say it was a great sounding box for it's size. Would love to find one, but this listing I passed up due to it was missing door and battery cover and price to high, for it's condition.

retrodos --

thats such an extreme rare model -

bet most of us never even heard of it !!

well --few boxes sound like the m90 -

but you say it sounds so good for its size ..

so , asking --what more common boxes is its sound comparable to ?

m70 or crown 850 or panny5500 ???

reli - 2012-04-10 04:13

due to its small speakers, there is no way it could "project" sound as "widely" over great distances as something like an M70.....But I bet the quality of sound is damn nice for its size

I am betting it sounds kinda like a Sanyo C7........Decent bass for such small speakers, but kind of muffled otherwise......Not going to win any outdoor battles........

The weight of 9kg intrigues me....

Too bad there is no chance of finding parts for it

im not suprized this box is nearly as good as an m90, although i have never heard one.....i have a box and it's on a different planet to the m90...altho not as loud......i think this is the box that litfan speaks highly of....plenty in japan according to him
