So I made a boombox...

Yeah, the Mrs said I could make a boombox for my lil girls first birthday as she loves music, but it couldn't be too loud, and it had to look pretty. So this is what I knocked up:

The JBLs I picked up NOS in the US for $5 a while back, I hacked a £4.99 2.1 system from Comet for a bass speaker and mighty 4W amp setup. I can plug my iphone or a cassette walkman into it for tunes. It's alright, eh?

It just needs two "pigtail" antennas!

She'll love it! Get them started on the boomboxes young...and just maybe they'll phase out the current ipod generation!

A JBL powered boombox? Crikey! Great idea using car speakers, units designed to work in a slim space. What's that above the right speaker? Is that a vol control?

Cheers fellas.

Antenna? Antenno. I'm still smartin that my lad twisted me original antennae off the GF555!

The plate above speaker right is the volume control, I hacked and reused as much of the cheap 2.1 system figuring I can upgrade the amp unit and sub when I need too but the on/off switch (mounted on the side) and vol control prob wont ever need changing.

I have a HK Soundsticks 3 stored for a future project, if I can balance an amp right then the soundsticks bass and JBL mids combined with whatever tweeters I can dig out (the satellites from the 2.1 might be a good fit here) may make for a killer sounding box. This one is just mdf and pine shelving sides/top/bottom, i'd think about combining wood with acrylic so that I could lay el wire under the front in the shape of the cassette drawer, dials etc. That could look quite Tron
