hey retro...

stereo2go: Some oldies but goodies. - Powered by Hoop.la

THANKS to your gorgeous designs -

i am  inspired to make the 550 case with 2 10" woofs-

it will be all wood -

hope it looks 1/2 as great as your artwork

-------------

in case anyone has a spare JVC emblem - ?

and a pair of the 550 side bars -     ?

i would like to buy these

PLEASE send a dialogue

retro - 2012-03-11 21:50

Go for it rebenjoe I would love to see how it turns out. How thick is the wood your going to use? I think a textured coating would probably be best for this project.

redbenjoe - 2012-03-11 21:58

the initial plan is to make the 12 piece frame from 1/2" X 3/4" oak

or maple - for the strength and durability -

but the 6 big panels - only need to be 1/8" or 1/4' ply

( to save weight )

the entire case may weigh less than 4 pounds

redbenjoe - 2012-03-29 23:49

here is a pre-prototype

with time & luck ...to acquire a pair of 550 donors -

then - the correct woofer trims, side crash bars, top mics, etc etc

would make this as close as possible to your original dual 550 design

its 29" x 15"  with 10" woofs

very fun project-- so far

retro - 2012-03-30 06:49

So far so good, are those coaxials your using? I wan't to try something similar with a three piece unit and custom moulded parts.

redbenjoe - 2012-03-30 07:09

havnt selected the speakers or the amps --yet..

here are a few more views -

with the 3 stainless crash bars

adding chrome around the woofer grills --later

brutus442 - 2012-03-30 10:04

thanks all for the replys --

the front panel will end up made from 1/4 " tight plywood --

should be plenty strong ( with some spot bracing ) to hold

the heavy woofers, crash bars etc

this pre-prototype is only 1/8" ply

ao - 2012-03-30 14:25

So, Ira, the above pics, they're just a mock-up?

redbenjoe - 2012-03-30 15:08

yes cris --its a front face mock up --

and thru the top clear acrylic you can see the tuner and meters

of a jvc m70 , along with its top controls-

since i dont have even ONE 550 here -

the m70 is my best model to work around

deliverance - 2012-03-30 15:20

very interesting love to do something like that my self good work ira

redbenjoe - 2012-03-30 15:25

redbenjoe - 2012-03-30 15:49

RR --

the 550s i need would have to be --not worth $$ much -

as they both will be very sacrificed to create this design

radio.raheem - 2012-03-30 15:56

redbenjoe - 2012-10-23 14:33

panasonic.fan - 2012-12-09 12:01

Hopefully Retro has these tucked away somewhere else so they can be reposted.

This is the most inspiring, creative project thread I've seen in many moons. Congrats on the fantastic work RBJ, cannot wait to see the finished product.

brutus442 - 2012-12-10 11:21

Good luck with the search Ira. It's looking great, and thse mics will be the icing on the cake!

erniejade - 2012-12-13 12:41

So when is the production line going to be ready for shipping?

retro - 2012-12-13 17:26

Looks great redbenjoe , I'm glad you got a pair of the original grilles.

redbenjoe - 2013-06-02 19:34

ok --finally --15 months later --this is almost as complete as its ever gonna be -

found the 2 roll bars = YESSSSS !!

need to install the deck door --do a few paint touch-ups , etc -

perhaps --down the road --i will find 2 swivel mics --anyone have a few for sale ??

still --even without the mics -

extreme happy with the looks and with the sound of these 10" woofs

and the stock M70 tweets

samovar - 2013-06-02 20:57

wonderful! may i suggest, as a final touch, to paint the handle black? it seems to me it would be more in keeping with the jvc style. fantastic project anyway, hat off!

redbenjoe - 2013-06-02 21:24

thanks --you are right --black will soon be the handle color

brutus442 - 2013-06-02 23:19

Darth Vader.....your JVC M-100 is ready!

Beautiful Ira!!!

erniejade - 2013-06-04 00:35

Amazing work!

radio.raheem - 2013-06-04 05:25

If this is actually real now redbenjoe (not a mock up) it's the best work i have seen on stg....not bad for an old timer

redbenjoe - 2013-06-04 05:35

thanks -

yes its 100% real and fully functional --

and it seems to prove that JVC could have produced

a dual 10"  ( stereo RC 550 ) in this exact size case =

 29 1/2 " x 15 1/2 "

same dimensions as the conion c100f

i wish they had done it

deliverance - 2013-06-04 06:12

that looks fantastic top job ira

redbenjoe - 2016-02-28 07:26
