What kind of bass do you like???

radio.raheem - 2012-03-21 00:24

please specify what kind of bass is to your prefrance...related to boomboxes....

I like a rich deep warm bass bass (frequancies under 60 hz...the lower the better)

boxes like the aiwa 880 crown 970 and m90 kaboom hifi studio are good at this...the jvc pcx 200 wins for me though...it is ultra low...and you dont need the volume set above  number 2 to get that rich deep effect without disterbing the neighbours..(not realy into loud music these days anyway) must be getting old hehe...if anything the bass on this box is aproaching bloated....but god i love it...

boxes like the pioneer 909 have lots of bass but it lacks the richness and depth(lowest is 100 hz...and enything any lower it fails to diliver..(loved the 909 for the rich highs...but sadly i just couldnt live with the hollow bass)

lastly the m70 was a big let down for me...yes it has passible bass but i found the volume needed to be set at anound half way to get any benifit

boxes like the m80 gf555 forget it...

anyway over to you guys...what are you're prefrances in the bass department

isolator42 - 2012-03-21 01:19

For boomboxes, I like the bass a little higher than 60Hz.

Maybe around 100Hz? Low enough to give an impressive thump, but high enough to not be a big power drain & a tricky acoustic challenge.

The smaller amps in boomboxes are less able to handle the really low, rich bass, especially when running on batteries when available power is limited. Also, the speaker systems (such as JVCs Hyper Bass, Hitachi's ASW, etc.) created to deal with these lower frequencies often run out of puff early. They do sound great at lower volumes however.

In the later 80s popular music genres (metal, rock, soul, hip-hop, etc.) started to have more low bass in it, so it became more important.

As for bass at home or in the car? The lower, the better

radio.raheem - 2012-03-21 04:53

how ya doin iso....i kind of agree on the hyper bass thing....i have about 6 jvc various different models and they are as you state...but this jvc pc 200 (hyperbass thing is obsene it's sitting here half volume perfect.....im almost temted to sell some of my grails to pay bills because nothing can tuch it...you know me i love boomboxes for all sorts of reasons like everyone..but sound is my most IMPORTANT crteria.......granted it isn't 1000 watts...but its plenty loud enough...my mate came over and was TOTALLY blown away...he thought i was using one of my stack systems..while standing at my front door...it truly does put out 60 hrtz if not abit lower...

onto another subject...the kaboom....i dont have one anymore..but at some places i have heard the kaboom and the sound has been mind boggling the bass has been so good...but at my current dwelling it just sounded good...but not like a k's worth of stack system...so i sold all my kabooms......boxes like the m90 have sounded good whereaver i have been...and this jvc 200 too...it isn't a new descovery...but for some reason the 200 ended up in my shed and i had forgotten all about it

chris69 - 2012-03-21 05:06

My favorite would be the bi-amped PANASONIC RX-DT680

I bought one new back in the 1990's and it had the most impressive sound all around compared to any other boombox i've ever owned.

radio.raheem - 2012-03-21 05:13

good mornin chris.....yea i have abou 7 in that series...including the 680...it truly is a great machine...i do prefure the ones without cd though....thats the only drawback with this jvc...it has bloody cd haha...if only cd were as easy to repair as changing some belts

deliverance - 2012-03-21 05:13

it depends what music i am listening to regarding bass love it some times low and deep , the b90,  680 , 9494, tpr-950 , surprised how good the 9595 sounds you dont always need to spend big money to sound good .

For a box, since I do not own more than one right now I can't reall brag.

yes trebble is also very important....thats why boxes like the m90 dt680 are so damn good...this jvc is exallent to ...another reason i sold my kabooms....i found the trebble responce usles on cassett...on cd it was pretty much ok...but cassette was awful....and most of my tapes are origional

chris69 - 2012-03-21 05:21

Good morning

Yeah i hear ya there. I'm not crazy about boombox's with CD players on them either. I had bought my 680 new back in the day and i remember it cost me $450.00 back then which was alot of cash but i never regreted it. The highest priced one was that cobra styled one (forget the model number) which was $50.00 more but i hated the looks of the damn thing ...fugly lol. I bought the cobra styled model a couple years ago but still hated the looks so much that i flipped it on ebay within a week just to get it out of my sight haha

reli - 2012-03-21 15:01

I like warm bass, but it usually comes at the expense of tightness

For example:  Aiwa TPR-950, and Telefunken Studio 1......great at warm bass, bad at tight bass

GE 3-6035.......great at tight bass, bad at warm bass

driptip - 2012-03-21 20:27

I find the 767 and 777 to have nice bass too, tho it depends on what music you are listening too,  if you standing about 3 or 4 feet from the radio at half volume ,

blasterfan.jens - 2013-01-11 16:01

blaster - 2013-01-11 18:20

I Like all kinds of bass, miami bass, techno bass, dubstep bass,..... but my favorite is the 80s bass...that punchy 808 drum machine bass....i dont like the 90s bass....many of the tracks of then where very distorted and muffled....

plop - 2013-01-11 23:45

I could never get into this bass.

ken80s - 2013-01-12 00:24

I like the taste of soft, warm and mellow bass. The significant of soft mellow bass is that you can actually feel the sustenance of low frequency resonance when the bass hit the speakers. Hard bass will just goes off like a hammer hitting a wooden door and there is no clarity in it. Soft bass that match with fine and bright type of treble produce music that is really enjoy to listen to. I might also like tight bass for some reason. Some of my favorite 80s songs that nice to go with soft bass,

1) Love lift us up where we belong - Joe Cocker
2) Live to tell - Madonna
3) Nothing gonna stop us now- Starship
4) Say You Say Me- Lionel Richie and many more

For tight bass songs of my fav,

1) Somebodys watching me - Rockwell
2) Electric Blue- Ice house
3) Out of touch - Hall and Oates  and many more...

elektroneko - 2013-02-17 13:26

I like my beat to be kicking, not drowning in it's own bass.

lav.loo - 2013-02-17 14:01

bass is bass set it how ya like it

cman750 - 2013-02-17 15:37

We got the juice by the Attitude first song I blasted on my JVC RC M90 August 1983 . Heavy Bass

radio.raheem - 2013-02-17 15:55

you would have stolen the show with an m90 back then cman....i used to take my jvc dc33l to school in about 84...i sometimes had 1000 kids follow me...it would have been unbelievable with an m90...i don't have one now but used to take one out....people used to get there cameras out all sorts.....it was like a portable rave machine

cman750 - 2013-02-18 03:15

True Radio Raheem ...I was the second guy around to have the 90 a buddy of mine had one as well ..one night in front of the arcade we linked them together and a unschedule street party took place. This was the jam we were blasting....
