Boombox models with metal casing

marada - 2012-04-24 05:57

I am looking for boombox models that have a metal casing design instead of plastic?  Does anyone know of any models that fit the bill from any era?

As in all metal, on all sides?  I don't think it exists.  Many have metal trim plates glued to a plastic case, but I have not seen any with a pure metal case.  Except for some 5-piece component systems, but even then, only the components will be metal case, not the speakers.  You would not want metal speaker cases.

Some older units have metal on top like JVC838 and Sanyo9994

That I know but ofcourse there must be others but not all around I doubt that.

never seen an all metal box, i can only assume you want one to put your tools in

yamaha made some bookshelf size speakers in aluminum ( non-magnetic)

and the aiwa carry compound had plenty of metal built in its

center section

Don't forget the Panasonic RX-7200 & RX-5700

Those Panasonic's look very nice.  On the RX-7200 it looks like the only non metal part is are the speaker guards.  Is that wood on the side or is it plastic?  What is it like from the back?  Do you have any more pictures?  Or does it have less metal than I think?

maxx134 - 2012-04-25 06:28

has anyone ever got the 7200 tuner to go past 90mhz limit?

I don't own these but I know they have wooden sides.  I'm guessing too that the backs are plastic.  Nice though?

Thanks for the reply.  Do you have any pictures of the back of the unit?  So was it realesed for the European market and not the US market?

Wait a minute, I don't think I've seen the National Panasonic version of the RX-5700 before. Maxx134, take look at the tuning dial, this version has shortwave and actually does tune to 108 mhz. The badge location and triming on the bottom is different from mine. There's also the AIMOR ST-808 II and the Toshiba RT S-95.
