Sony LX-1K

Here's another very strange and interesting portable radio cassette recorder made by Sony.  Has anyone ever seen or heard one of these before?

I might have seen these for sale on Yahoo Jp quite a few years ago, but I was only interested in the more popular models at the time.

This system was definitely in mass production. I purchased one in Tokyo in the fall of 1977. Living in Japan during this time was extremely exciting for me because I was able to see so many cutting edge electronic products up close. I saw a brochure for the LX 1k and knew I had to have it.

I saved up my earnings from working at a Mcdonalds in Oyama and I went to an electronics sale in Shinjuku and paid cash. I thought (still do) it was the coolest thing.

Recently I had been casually looking for anything online about this system but didn't find anything. I remembered that I still have the speakers and realized it had the model number printed on it. So glad I found this posting. Brought back some really great memories of pure listening pleasure...and a teenage gadget lover's ultimate possession.

Welcome to the forum Sushimart, I can post scans with more information on the LX-1 tomorrow if you like.

Sony constantly reinvented the wheel, I guess they were sniffing for the next walkman phenomena.  This is a very strange one though, what's the small speaker for exactly or is it designed to work independently of the speakers?  Love the brushed black Braun-style design.

True but this was years before the WalkMan showed up. This was pure innovation with a gorgeous combination of mobility and functionality. Sony was definitely king of cool and quality.

The small speaker was just a monitor of sorts. I'm thinking that  when plugged in, the large speakers cancelled out the small one.

The main idea in this unit was mobility. It came with a shoulder strap and could operate on just batteries.

Not only a zombie thread revival, but completely off topic.

when resurrected, old threads come back oblivious of their past. but when the going gets tough, the toughs get going: let Mr. CN walk among us!

I am actually glad that this topic was resurrected, I missed it in 2012 and now I feel like I know a little bit more
