deliverance - 2012-06-20 12:08

i thought the b90 kaboom was the one to get reno.

radio.raheem - 2012-06-20 12:12

been there my friend....had them all apart from this one......great bass but just not enough treble imho....some say this is the best one...but then my rotel was meant to be good...just to much expectations over it i guess

redbenjoe - 2012-06-20 13:40

that is the #1 best kaboom -- ever -

and it has digital treble and mid controls ---

and meters ..

nice buy

radio.raheem - 2012-06-20 14:52

That is encoraging news redbenjoe,,,,do you know if that dreadful acs system has been omitted from this one???

redbenjoe - 2012-06-20 15:07

no -- its not there -

but --on other kabooms --you dont HAVE TO ever use it -

so--never a problem anyway

radio.raheem - 2012-06-20 15:22

Brill thankyou once again ira....wish i had bought your boxed one now

retro - 2012-06-20 15:50

Here's a video posted by Corafan demonstrating the drum pad.

radio.raheem - 2012-06-20 16:54

Thanks dwayne....im actually looking forward to this one....i remember this model years ago here in the shops....the thing that put me off were those drumpads...i ended up buying a new rvb90 instead....that was about 2000.....and what started me of collecting boxes...funny how my collecting days are over...but end up with this model kaboom...I just diddn't think any boombox with drumpads could be taken seriously or have a good sound

isolator42 - 2012-06-21 01:20

I currently have two of these drumpad Kabooms... & I've also owned a RV-NB10 (a full size, pre iPod kaboom).

The spec for the drum-pad Kaboom quotes the output power (@10% THD) as slightly higher than a standard full-size Kaboom of the same era:

- Standard Kaboom: 5W +5W (full range), 15W + 15W @ 60Hz (woofer)

- Drumpad Kaboom: 5W +5W (full range), 16W + 16W @ 60Hz (woofer)

I did quite a bit of side by side listening & can report that the drumpad Kaboom wasn't significantly louder or bassier than the standard Kaboom.

However, the separate controls for Mid & Treble on the drumpad Kaboom mean you can lift the treble enough for a better overall sound.

Strangely, the "Mid" control doesn't alter midrange. It changes frequencies somewhere between mid-bass (the second slider from the left on a 5 band EQ) & bass. Strange. I thought this might've been a fault with the first drumpad Kaboom, but they both do it.

Anyway, boom-wise the drumpad Kaboom is an absolute powerhouse, just don't expect a marked difference in output from an original Kaboom.

btw, the reason I'm hogging two RV-DP200s: I was given one with a dead CD & AC input & in poor cosmetic shape. I fixed the AC input, but couldn't fix the CD player. It's still great as an monster iPod speaker for kids parties, etc.

The lack of CD annoyed me, so I picked up another fully working & in excellent cosmetic shape for £50 (a fast move on a local pickup for cash).

Just IMHO, but £150 seems a bit steep to me. Mind you, I'm a right old skinflint

isolator42 - 2012-06-21 01:27

I'd forgotten about the ACS - it was bloody awful, but as the only way to boost treble, it was better than nothing. As Ira says - it's not on the drumpad Kabooms.

Also the flashing lights didn't work on my first (fixer-upper) drumpad Kaboom, so when I saw them on the newer one, they were a nice surprise - all pretty colours too. See Muto's pic here:

Just had a thought: the 'Mid' control would be useful when listening with headphones, as the superwoofer control only alters the volume sound from the woofers. Still doesn't explain why it's called 'Mid' though...

Also, this has reminded me: I need to re-belt the tape deck on my newer drumopad Kaboom. Hope it won't be a nightmare...

samsnite - 2012-06-21 08:31

Missed a dp200 a while ago... sold for 50 euro. Have always wanted one.

ghettoman - 2012-06-21 08:43

a friend of mine has got 4 kabooms,he loves them,i have to say i never used to like the kaboom but after my friend having one i did warm to them..

i had the latest model about a month ago,RV NB70,gunmetal grey with ipod dock and usb,it sounded simply beautifull, the bass was bouncing and the trebble was nice and clear..

there is only 1 reason i sold it,the guy that sold it me said he forgot the remote, told me to go back next week,so i did,and the week after and the week after and the week after that, but he kept saying he forgot it,i thought he was just spinning me a story so with the model i had, most of the functions were on the remote,so it was useless, and i sold it to my kaboom fan friend..

he said the only way anyone will get that box off him is to prize it out of his dead rigormortis fingers lol

3.db - 2012-07-04 02:11

Yea, those are sweet. I had one years ago myself and loved it.

Not to rain on your parade but it does have one minor drawback. It doesn't have the same punch should you decide to go portable with it. Batteries can't supply that much juice, so the subs won't put out as much. Also because it's designed to run with more power than your average box it's a bit inefficient thus not as loud and powerful on batteries as one designed for the normal 10 watts or so of output.

Other than that when used at home or on a good 12V supply it'll actually rival a lot of today's home stereos. It's outright badass.

radio.raheem - 2012-07-04 03:42

yup i agree my friend....there is no way in hell this could put out the same power on batteries ......everybody who has heard her says she is out rightly the best box i have had...and  i have had 99% of them
