Hitachi CX-W750E, opinions?

ultraneo - 2012-09-30 05:53

I acquired one recently, on the outset it looks amazing for it's age and everything works as it should though I feel the CD appears to be sensitive to knocks. Sound wise, it's pretty good but it's unlike other 3D's, therefore I'm having mixed feelings about it.

Just wondered what everyone else's opinions were. I'm aware they're not everyone's cuppa tea... I'm not sure do I wanna keep her; are there anyone who's interested in this box?

it kind of reminds me of a fly from the front' i don't mind the 3d's but this one is pretty ugly, my humble opinion of course and i don't mean to offend in any way

but if you like it then it does'nt matter what other people think, it's your choice

ultraneo - 2012-09-30 06:05

Guess you could say I'm having second thoughts. I don't mind other people's honest opinions. Design is much like Art, and a musical track, some love it, others loaths it! I think a boomer is no different.

Still... I like to hear what others think, it's nice to hear

Did some cleaning, she's mighty dusty!!! And a little investigation on how this 3DASW thing worked, only then did I discover the box is missing a far few screws!! Now I'm wondering did the screws just turn around and split? or did someone else tried opening her up only to gave-up? I had to use a screwdriver with a 22cm reach! - Surely they notice they have spare parts?? IMG_0551
Sure as hell didn't expect to find another boxy thing inside the unit.. IMG_0813
And a somewhat tiny woofer inside. Kinda disappointing all of this. Think I was expecting something with a little more kick! You look at the overall size of this box and you don't expect a pint-sized driver kicking out the bass with a tiny single reflex port. I thought there'd be a massive bass bin.. IMG_0824
Gotta admit, that's a unexpected and nice touch from Hitachi. Looks like the LCD's won't be fading over time as there no rubbery conductors which normally deteriorates becoming useless, leading to display issues as it ages. IMG_0821 On the upside, Hitachi separated their power-amp from the power-supply. From my experience, this help to remove electrical noise and possible hum, leading to a cleaner sound! More to come...

(think that's the correct order

not looking too bad after all then eh, certainly not an empty box

ultraneo - 2012-09-30 07:04

Hmm.. At a glance, it appears everything is modular in this box.

Their CD module....

I have this box, unfortunately cd was not working on mine, but I got it cheap, like 10 euros or so.

I like the sound coming from it.

It used to bring it to barbeques, however something broke inside and now only one channel works. I have put it on storage, but will someday bring it back to life.

erniejade - 2012-09-30 08:04

If you look at some of the jvc with the 3d woofer, they sound good and that woofer in them is tiny.   remember to get more bass out of them put them on the floor!

The build inside actually looks solid from the pics.

I have one...it actually sounds better than some of the grails...thanks for letting us see inside... nice box

ultraneo - 2012-09-30 12:02

Hmm... What model's the remote for this unit? I didn't get one.
Also can someone please supply a picture of it? Please.

Damn! That's a real shame.

Perhaps it's worthy of keeping your eyes open as faulty ones might appear, you never know, peeps sell anything on fleabay. Then maybe you can swap out the CD module, it's all relatively simple and everything is modular.

Your welcome mate. I'll post more pics if anyone else is interested.

See... I have this thing. Some call it OCD, I really think it's not.  I don't have any issues with people or their hygiene or lack of. However, whenever I buy something that's either pre-owned or pre-loved (usually electronics, computers and gadgets) I have an urge to peak inside and whilst i'm at it, attempt a 'deep clean'. lol

I'm talking grabbing my tool box, unscrewing/un-clipping/opening it with military precision, remove all the parts (essentially ripping it to shreds), creating tech porn as I go and soaking what needs to be cleaned - Only areas I try to avoid is the electronics since many components are sensitive to static and dislike water!! Certain other things need to be opened simply cause they need some TLC.

Your habit sounds great.

Please buy more boomboxes and rip them apart to show us what they make them tick...or actually boom

I tend to do that too, however my time is so limited and I usually just hoard them, then store them.

andyboombox - 2012-10-11 02:08

had one of these a while back-quite powerful upto a point and then they just crap outi agree with azz on the styling-well said mateif you can get one cheap and dont mind not cranking it too far then its worth getting.....otherwise,any 90s box for me is athumbs down.....sorry

isolator42 - 2012-10-11 05:56

I have the CX-W700 - same with an analog tuner.

I also have the 3D90, same design but without the CD.

These perform a bit like the JVC Hyper Bass boomers, because they use the same band-pass bass enclosure system (called ASW 'Acoustic Super Woofer' here).

They sound excellent at low-mid volumes, with deeper bass than most 3Ds. However, the bass falls apart big-style when cranked. The other 3Ds will thrash out more volume, but without the extended bass of the ASW system.

Looks are in the 90s boombox arena.

Lovers of the 'classic' boomer look should move right along

UltraNEO, if you don't want it, I'm interested... PM me
