Passive Radiators in the TDK Boombox

mitchelljames - 2012-12-23 15:51

Ive been mulling over getting the 2 speaker TDK boombox and while browsing around for prices ive come across a newer version that is cheaper (£50-£100 cheaper).

This unit has a built in rechargeable battery which i really like but seems to have a differant speaker set up to the "older" 2 speaker system as it uses passive radiators.

Ive read up a little on this type of speaker and im i right in saying they work by the airwaves from the smaller driver in the unit??

At the end of the day are they not as good and is this what makes this unit cheaper?

Any thoughts

Cheers guys

Dave, yes your right about how they work but my personal view is that I don't think they work as well as a normal speakers on the opinion of two boxes I have with passive radiator speakers

Hey guys I've got the tdk wireless boombox. I really wanted the 3 speaker but it was out my budget. So my options were the 2 speaker box or this one. I love the strap on the 2 speaker box but the bluetooth connectivety and built in rechargeable battery on the wireless box won me over, plus it was cheaper. Sound wise I put this just a tad behind my i931 for outright volume but the quality is better. Like my i931 this can go virtually to max volume without breaking up (I say virtually as I've only had this to about 75%), where most my old boxes I dont really wont to take past half way.

It has 2 full range drivers, 2 passive radiators and 1 sub woofer in the back of unit. It says it is 2x7w +15w, I have no idea how accurate that is but it sounds about right. This wont be everyones thing but I really like it although I will still look out for both the other 2 speaker box and the 3 speaker box second hand.

nice one mate.....how does it sound again't some of your other boxes?

mitchelljames - 2012-12-27 10:35

i would say that big stuff i have/had like the GF767 or the C100 would blow it away and my mid sizes boxes like the M70 and Rising 20-20 are better aswell but it tops alot of the rubbish ive got because although its not really loud its a cleaner sound if that makes sence.

I think its the versatility of the thing aswell, because its rechargeable and because of the bloothtooth i can see me slinging it the car and using it more on the go than any of my old stuff.

Horses for courses i guess.
