You know what guys; I got one of these in December and though I have looked at it a lot, and it's a big and good sounding box I can't help thinking that I hate the colours behind the VU meters! It just looks like a cheap Chinese rip off. Tacky, even.

Each to thier own......

northerner - 2013-01-11 06:34

I love my 9000 and think it has the best vu meters of any box. Was listening to mine last night and it rocks.

Congrats on a great pickup!

Nothing wrong with a bit of tacky bling bling  but as you say not everyones cup of tea

While on this subject, my Bass control slider does nothing. Are they known for packing up?

northerner - 2013-01-11 08:23

I've got loads of sharps including the 9000 and all sliders are fully functioning so based on my limited experience they're pretty reliable

a speaker change makes a world of difference....try it

deech - 2013-01-11 14:20

i back dave all the way on that one....

anyone that has one of these boxes bin the drivers and upgrade, the standard speakers are not up to the job! this box has so much more to give but the drivers let it down massively

iv got a moded one that sounds the nuts and had standard ones that won't even come near to touching it on sound quality and volume

as for the vu's....well that's what made me get one!

ground.control - 2013-01-12 03:26

I tend to play jazz so the speakers dont pose a problem to me

Mine has replacement speakers but they are vintage sharp ones so not sure what they came out of but they sound fantastic to my ears, really clear with good bass so I'm guessing they weren't out of another 9000

ground.control - 2013-01-12 05:04

LOL Radiograms arn't very portable ,also like other types of music but jazz is my passion

Elegance. That's what it comes down to Dave, lovely. This is, in my opinion, the only thing wrong with the Aiwa CS880. The VU meters have red needles against a dark background and are almost invisible most of the time! Telefunken and Panasonic know how to do it right too but those Tosh meters are sublime.

BTW, talking of Tosh, just bought one of my old faves from my teens; Tosh RT120S in lovely condition, fully working for the princely sum of £2.40!

northerner - 2013-01-12 10:19

The tosh vu's are pure class whilst the 9000 are over the top...I love em both!
