can I use a Ghettoblaster as PA system?

chubbywhiteguy - 2013-01-09 18:09

Hello.  I was wondering if old boomboxes can be used as a PA system.  I would like an old cool looking boombox for stand up comedy and was wondering if the mic mix input would allow you to plug in a mic and use the speakers to amplify your voice.  If it would, that would be really neat.

Cheers

Some can

Some cannot

Some maybe

Depend's upon the model you choose

. Many boxes do have a MIC in and even MIC mixing volume control and sadly many do not.

Thank guys, very much appreciated.  I'm looking on ebay and I see a lot with the stereo mic inputs (L and R).  Would that work?  And then some have a mic mix input which I think is what I should be looking for like the one pictured.  Is that correct?

Cheers

The Sharp HK-9000 works great as a PA system, it has dual 1/4" mic inputs with mixing capabilities. I used to use it in my community center for that purpose. The RX-6400, as driptip mentioned, would be an even better solution.

i say go with the panasonic 6400, this is loud  which you need and you can plug in some 1/4 in mics there.  tho is a 3 piece unit.

Understand that these Mic connection's were presented to the boombox for the intent of recording to the cassette, mic mixing into your source that you are recording as well.

You should be looking for a model that has a selector switch to facilatate line-in to accept another source to play through your device then it's possible to add your voice to the music or as a stand alone voice-amplifier boombox.

Look for boombox's that have variable sound Monitoring - this will allow you to have a karoke mic input through your boombox

This (Panasonic RX-6400) or the Panasonic RX-A2 or RX-A5 is a portable studio - not a boombox - Yes they are loud and Huge to carry onstage

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the advice.  I've decided to go with my gut instinct and get the hannah montana ghettoblasters.

I really do appreciate it.  I'm a more confident buyer now that I know what to look for.  I'm going to keep my eyes open for a Sharp hk-9000, Sharp gf-777, or an old karaoke box that can use batteries.  The Panasonic 6400 looks like it would be really cool for a gig, I will keep an eye open for that too.  Take care now.

Look for the Panasonic Sy-pa 100. It will respond to all your needs and then some.

Not sure if it is ok to post this link, there is one on ebay, see the description:
