mitchelljames - 2012-12-27 15:07

Hey agent orange, a brief history of this site would bd a great read. Like how old is this forum, who started it, who thought up the name, so many questions lol. Is there an old thread anywhere with a bit history. What was the first thread lol?

erniejade - 2012-12-27 15:16

There was another site attached to the pocket calc site that became this site we are on now.   I cannot remember what year Paul  changed it over...  Its been quite some time though.   Old members from the other site when it got changed over automatically got added to this one.

nak.d - 2012-12-27 15:51

That site was really the wild wild west.....

retro - 2012-12-28 10:05

I remember,  there were two posted on ebay, one had faded woofers and the other sold for about $225.00.

Indeed. Now every yahoo with an Ebay account thinks they have a $300-500 "rare find!"

retro - 2012-12-28 10:12

10 years ago, member Dezzy posted some awesome pictures of his Fisher PH-492 and his Conion C-100F at the park.

guess i an not surprised --collectors talking about prices of their collectables

is the more boring ' business ' end of the spectrum -

much more interesting are posts about performance, design and quality.. and how the

acquisition was discovered --

and how rare the object is --the AKAs, etc

but $$$ sure is part of the hobby- 10 years ago and forever

Was just poking fun at an easy target (prices) RBJ ..... We pretty much covered the spectrum of topics. Some of the best threads ever here are the stories of finding radios in the wild. I wish there were more of these in the US, but fear they are mostly long gone by now. Still, I look forward to whenever I see topics like that.

Keen for this not to become another M90 thread but I agree, the pure soul attached with finding something rare in a dark corner of a dusty junk shop seems to be very much a thing of the past.  Like many other forums this has sadly become an eBay 'opinion' chat site where we discuss the merits of sellers morals rather than the endeavors of those who find something cheap, broken and special who then share with us the process of fixing it up.

That said, we're getting more and more new members who are finding some gems in the wild, especially in Eastern Europe and the Far East, maybe there just isn't any more boxes left to find in the US/UK, maybe the ebay penetration has enveloped pretty much every walk of life and any potentially interesting item finds itself on eBay regardless.  My 87 year old father asked me to eBay some old printing presses last year & he doesn't even own a computer, this shows that pretty much everyone knows that the web is the ultimate marketplace for items to achieve their presumed value.  It's a shame but it was inevitable.

10 years ago was fun, we were all learning & this site is a great place for learning, how many of us saw our dream box for the first time on S2Go?  I know I did and I still haven't found my TPR-810, I just hope that this is the box I inevitably find in the wild.

I was chatting with one of our other members here about this.   I think some of us took a break from the place when some of the drama hit a while back.      I think a lot of us still looked around but just didnt post as much.    For a bit, instead of the love of boomboxes and music in general, it became a seperation of people where it is your either on my side of things and bashing people instead of having fun and letting people have a difference of opinion, and having a discussion on what that opinion is without name calling or bashing what someone thinks or feels.

I think many of us including myself missed this place come back to take a look around and to check in and see how everyone is doing and hope the drama is not as much as it used to be.      I know I still love boomboxes, and well, just stereo stuff in general!!   It's an addicting hobby that is for sure!!!

Please remember when reading this, it's just my opinion on some of us that might have not posted as much on the forum and not a wrong and right sort of thing.

davebush - 2012-12-29 12:41

I think whether your a new or old member.....your always gonna be welcomed back with open arms
