Keep, bling or trade?

northerner - 2013-01-16 08:17

I've been after a box to bling up with some LEDs since I started collecting boxes but every one I've got has been too nice or just not suited.

I finally got this Sharp GF6060X (not to be confused with the E version which is the dullest box ever) as it had grills that looked perfect for slipping a few LEDs in and it had a fair amount of chrome as well.  Its surprisingly heavy and well built too.

So what I'm asking is whether I should leave as is (as its fully working now I've cleaned switches and done the usual gooey capstan), bling it up with 8 flashing blue LED's on the grills, or shall I trade it with Andyboombox as he says he's been after one for years?

This is it before any cleaning/fixing:

Ok it's probably easier to stick to bling or not to bling then

Agreed, love the chrome trimmings.

Bling it.

Bling is all about making the ordinary more interesting and suggesting greatness where it does not exist. Got any leftover fairy lights?

brutus442 - 2013-01-16 11:13

I'm with NickFish on this one. I've never been a fan of the plastic porthole speaker grills so I'd be thinking...BLING!

With  red and blue leds

luke.loves.sharp - 2013-01-16 17:24

bling! I love led light! sounds great and don't forget to show us your masterpiece if you bling it!

driptip - 2013-01-16 21:26

this is just an amazing looking machine, i've seen them at flea market, pretty good size unit, and lots of chrome for sure, i say original or bling bling, is up to you.

northerner - 2013-01-17 02:59

Quite a few votes for blinging it then!

Only spanner in the works is that Andy has given me strict instructions not to do anything to it as he really wants it...I've given in and said he could have it...I'm too soft me!

My only other option for blinging at the moment is my Panasonic RX 5300 which is fully working, sounds good, and has a proper line in but is just sooo damn ugly.  What I'd like to do is fit some round grills and LED up the bugger.  Any views on whether its a wise move (or sacrilege!) to bling this one and does anyone have a couple of spare round grills knocking around?

Cheers

5300

andyboombox - 2013-01-17 03:36

get it done si....just leave the sharp alone though i had that panny one and it was a superb sounding stereo, but i agree with you that the looks arent all that-maybee a few led's on this sucker wouldnt be too bad

Thats pure love for the Sharp GF-6060 there Andy !!!

northerner - 2013-01-22 07:21

OK so I'm on to plan B as I was banned from molesting the Sharp

The Sharp GF6060X will shortly be on its way to Andy and a Philips D8444 on its way to me.  I've already got a minty D8444 which I'm keeping original so I'm going to bling the hell out of this one...LOL!  Not quite decided what else I'm going to mod on it yet...

nickdoofah - 2013-01-27 10:31

that panasonic has dull looks for sure (i remember them well) but surely it's quite rare esp in that condition now?

northerner - 2013-01-27 11:02

Yeh I'm gonna keep the Panny as is. Gonna bling up the D8444 instead as its more suited to it anyway. The Panny sounds brilliant, it's just a shame it's an ugly bugger

pioneer - 2013-01-27 17:06

Hey Northerner, just find a crap box to work with first, test out your skill's then move to a better box.
