Philips D8614 LED VU's

mark.gf575 - 2013-04-28 13:44

Being an owner of one myself i've always been frustrated by the lack of VU action when on radio, just the boring signal strength  Today I found a way around that!!! Simply pop a blank cassette in which still has it's copy tags still attached and press record!!! You now have dancin' VU's  Don't worry about it recording though as it automatically goes to pause/record so the cassette deck isn't actually doing anything!!!

it's a shame that the window in front of my D8614 leds turned completely white... Same like the tuner window... LEDs aren't hardly visuable anymore... don't know what happend with it, bought it like this.... Think it has something to do with excessive sunlight are something. it's really inside the plastic, so can't get it of.... So let it be a warning, don't give it to much sun otherwise you won't enjoy the circus anymore...

Michiel you think is difficult to make a new clear window

Have been looking at making a new window indeed, its fairly easy. But I don't really really like the box enough to spend some time to do it... Its easier to score another good box. They are quit common over here in Holland...

I would rather have a new window for my M9994 tough... I destroyed it while cleaning it..

There are several weak gears inside that box. I already tried to find a really cheap box with broken gears on my local auction site for a new laser project, but had no success yet.

I don't wanna open my current box anymore. Its getting to weak because I opened it a lot of times already ...

But what gear are you talking bout? Not the rewind/fwd gear, is it? It will play without that gear....

The Horizontal Motor with the worm gear on the end of that shaft, rotate's a Orange Gear that operates the Functions buttons ( that gear ) is needed

Yup, I remember that gear. That's exactly the gear I want to make when I find an other D8614 box. As I can recall its just a big gear with plain spur tooth. Its not difficult to make either... Just have to make three or so 4mm gears and join them on top of each other with a pin-hole construction to get the right thickness...

Or you send me your broken gear, so I can try to make a copy of it... It would speed things up considerably...

michiel - 2013-05-27 14:44

Nice, I just scored a D8614 with a super shiny clear window!  And guess what; the cassette player is broken...

lav.loo - 2013-05-28 01:06
