Sitman is Sadman

Have you guys and gals ever received a box and when you handled it, it made rattling sounds? I now know this feeling, it is a sinking feeling in my stomach .

Here is the description from the AD:

"Here is a vintage Sanyo Boombox - M9994. It has Manual/ALC Recording/Timer Standby/Auto Stop. This box is in very good condition with these exceptions, the dial cord is not working and is stuck on one channel and the tape player will fast forward and play but not rewind. The radio does work and sounds great, you just can't chande the radio station. The antenna is not broken. Any questions please feel free to e-mail me and I will be happy to help. Thank you for looking."

Very good condition indeed......

Here she is, made creaking & rattling sounds when i took it out of the box. Scratches, dings and nicks. There was only one screw holding the case together.

Tuner cover cracked

Opened her up and found these bits floating around

Previous botched attempted repair. Hmmm this circuit board didn't want to leave it's nest. Guess they figured they better use hulk like force to get to the back of tuner. Wait.. What?! Who the hell put two screws there???

Professional boombox repairmen they are not, BUT achieving greatness at breaking screw post's, they are AWESOME!

So beware, what one persons interpretation of "VERY GOOD CONDITION", might not be what you would interpret as the same.

Would anyone like to see what shipping damage to internals can cause? I bought an Akai tape deck from the bay as well. Stay tuned for Sadman part II

Am I allowed to say? I'm trying to resolve this. First time in 13 years on ebay I have to complain

One out of six is better than none i guess. When I seen that, was when my heart sank

Hope you bring it back to life sitman .

This is on my want list for such a long time

redbenjoe - 2013-05-01 12:43

in case this seller soon comes thru for you with the big refund you deserve-

and you are satisfied --

then no need to post the name -

if not -- please let us know as our warning

thanks

Sounds like some of the damage was caused by poor packaging too

Try and get a partial refund from the seller as it is 100% their responsibility to ensure the item arrives undamaged.

As for the mis-selling with the description, that can be escalated with eBay and you can actually get your full money back on it if you persist.

I can rebuild it, just such a pain to do so. Starting from a nice unit is so much more pleasant . A few plastic bits from the screw posts are missing so i can't just glue them back together. I have to make new posts. How to freshen up the thin aluminum side panels is the question? No doubt it will crease and bend when trying to take them off!?

That's what I was thinking. Don't want to ruin anyone's name unless they truly deserve it.

It might have been.... it was in a box twice the size of the boomer, length wise so it was sliding back and forth in there. Like a dead blow hammer.

not good sitman but sure you can sort it

brutus442 - 2013-05-01 13:17

Oh SITMAN this breaks my heart. Terrible packing is a death blow for boomers

What a shame. I hope you get her back up to specs...and I hope the seller refunds the $$. Like RBJ said...keep us posted on the outcome
