Another Hitachi 3D for the museum...

isolator42 - 2013-05-15 00:01

Here's something I haven't said for quite a while:

I got another Hitachi 3D off eBay to add to the collection

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hita...213204#ht_134wt_1200

Hitachi CX-450

One of the very last of them, definitely a 90s model. Only the second one I've ever seen anywhere, so no-one else had a chance really. Luckily for my bank balance, no-one else cared so it was mine for £15 fully working - can't be bad.

Yeah, it's an egg, but did I mention it's a Hitachi 3D? It's a sickness I have...

The extra woofer is on the back, rear firing (like those Megabass Sonys). Looks like there's a front firing port - I'll have it to bits & find out when it gets the cleanup (& boy, it needs it).

By this time in the life of the 3Ds, the "3D Bass Super Woofer" logo had been relegated to recessed plastic on the top.

Full logic auto-reverse deck, front tray-load CD player & digital tuner. Also found someone selling a remote for it too (which controls everything, apparently). If anyone can point me to a source for a manual I'd be grateful.

Another first: this is the only Hitachi 3D I've ever seen with only a tone control. Dear, oh, dear...

Luckily, it sounds pretty nice, like many of the pricier 90s eggs, although it's not as sweet sounding as the ASW Hitachi 3Ds.

Rare as hell. Go on, Google it, you won't find one anywhere - until this post gets crawled, of course

Congrats paul lad....only you would be so brave.....but to be fair some of the hitatchi 3d's sound very nice...like the one i bought.....there the only decent boxes hitatchi ever made...and im not joking....every other box i have heard by them sound garbage....

btw i don't think you have ever stated...but why are you so passionate about having all of the 3d hitatchi series?

lav.loo - 2013-05-15 00:18

nice one Isolator, for 15 quid it's a must for you gotta say the earlier 3d's have grown on me somewhat after seeing and hearing the 3d88.

but if your after getting the whole lot then the above is just as important, congrats

stereo.mad - 2013-05-15 00:19

Your a sick man Paul lol

brutus442 - 2013-05-15 00:21

Congrats! Isolator...how about some pics of the back

@Lav...missed your humour..glad your back Aaron!

isolator42 - 2013-05-15 01:04

Cheers, guys

Reno:
long story short - the first properly loud boomer I bought was a Hitachi 3D7 (the first of the 3Ds) 7 when I stumbled onto s2g, I arbitrarily decided that it might be fun to get all the 3Ds because they're often so cheap, & I'm a tight-wad

Also: most of the classic looking big Hitachis I've heard have been too bass-light (like the TRK8200 that I own), so I know what you mean. Some of the 3Ds are low rent as well. None of the 3Ds ever claimed to be top drawer. Always good value & plently of bang for your buck - which is what boomers are all about IMHO

Lav:
The 3D88 is a good one, for sure. A compact package for how loud it is...

stereo mad:
Yup, that's me

Brutus:

I'll take some pics when I clean her up - the back isn't as exciting as you might think...

Thanks for the explanation paul lad....you know what i have often thought of collecting all the jvc hyperbass models like you with your hitatchis....but i wouldn't have room...there are dozens of them....there are a couple of them that actually knock heaps of spots off boxes like the m90...if only they were as loud....tell ya something it's realy nice having you around paul..it wouldn't be the same here without you bro....after all we have been here for years....think we both joined in 2003 and it's a real pleasure having you here...if it weren't for you i wouldn't have bought my aiwa walkman...it's not the best sounding walkman but she is my fave hands down...there is just something about her looks...independent bass and treble....and dolby c....especially mine as she looks different from anybody else s in the world....and i now have the battery pack...just such a special thing

Cheers, Reno

My 6 year old son listens every night to the Hitachi CX-200 you found - remember that? It was utterly filthy.

I'm not an original member, joined in March 2005. Still a long time to be an S2Ger...

As Cris will testify, I could bore for England about the Aiwa HS-PX101. Such a 'complete' walkman package  & playback sound to rival many decent home hifi decks...

I remember that my friend...where is a pick of that boombox before i cleaned her....and the truth of the matter is the reason i took so long to send her...was because it was the only boombox i had found in the wild...for free,,,,from a dump if i remember...and still is to this day apart from a totally scrap 767...so i apologize for that .....i think you're right i joined about a year before you...but who cares were still here and that' the main thing bro

litfan - 2013-05-15 08:15

Wow. Can`t believe that. Took mine to the tip. I was just about to throw it in the electronic`s skip, when a voice from behind the fence said "oi mister, don`t you want it"? I said "cd doesn`t work". Never mind he said, pass it here, so, over the fence it went. Can`t remember, if i posted a pic of it, or not?

isolator42 - 2013-05-15 23:06

Which model was it Lit?

litfan - 2013-05-16 06:41

It was the cx450 isolator.

isolator42 - 2013-05-16 07:09

Fair enough.

If I wasn't mad for Hitachi 3Ds, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole...

litfan - 2013-05-16 07:16

Why do you think, it went to the tip .

ao - 2013-05-16 07:19

I have nothing nice or encouraging to add here

CX-450 is the sibling of CX-950 (equipped with ASW).
