This box came from the man himself, president of aiwa, may he rest in peace . I've only had the pleasure of meeting him once years ago, he was a very nice and polite man.

So I tried the box with some D cells today. Radio works and tunes from 87.9 - 107.9, I thought the J88 was a Japan model and had limited tuning, anyone know about this? Tape deck doesn't work and I got a tape stuck in there lol. Would it be ok to use power cord, it says 100V on the socket? Voltage from house is around 110V. TIA

Many Japanese radios have full range FM up to 108MHz. Nothing unusual about it.

You can try powering up from 110V. I have many 100Vs running on 110V. Connect and immediately check the battery level on the VU, while on radio or Line-in.

You may continue to use it on AC if:

1) Voltage level is within safe range on the VU

2) There is no (excessive) humming noise from the Transformer

3) There is no unusual humming while in Line-In at moderate volume.

4) There is no unusual temp. buildup on the body where Transformer is fitted.

Disclaimer: Try at your own risk.
