lav.loo - 2013-07-12 10:06

I didn't even know Philips made high end seperates i'm loving finding this stuff

check the needle meters on this baby

and wait there's more.....

Philips and Marantz are the same company so i guess for some markets some low end Marantz stuff was restyled and sold as Philips. Some of their early cd players were decent but they were not known for much else that was any good. There is much better stuff out there and it can be very cheap these days.

lav.loo - 2013-07-12 11:50

i never knew Philips had anything to do with Marantz Nick, thanks for that info.

i,ve never been that up on seperates tbh but i just like the look of the above stuff it seems to have great reviews on the sites.

Have a look at the Pioneer stuff in silver with blue lighting from the late 70's or equally old Kenwood stuff to really get your funk on. That kit was lovely.

yeah il'e check em out Nick, just stumbled this beauty, now this does look the part

andyboombox - 2013-07-13 01:10

now these are nice seperates azz mate, you cant beat seperates, but thats the hifi side of me coming out again-seperates are fantastic,as long as you pair them up with a really decent pair of speakers,as these and the main amp are the heart of the system, but golly gosh bro some of these can go really mega loud so beware-if you do buy any

claret.badger - 2013-07-13 02:01

Philips did a line in the 70's called Black Tulip iirc

check it out

also just so you know

the Philips CD 9 mech is used in ALL high end CD players made by other manufacturers

I'm afraid that is NOT technically seperates - that is a tower system

the difference being - you'd buy that as a set - and the units themselves would not "normally" be for sale seperately - perhaps maybe the optional EQ or double tape unit

Tower systems are notoriously made with ALL show and no go

quality is lacking and features will be "stacking" - also look for cheap ribbon interconects or cheap speaker terminals, common power supply from the amp - or even worse a combined tuner/amp section

hth
