If you don't mind me giving my honest opinion here John then alls good the d8444 looks cool but doesn't really offer much else sadly mate it doesn't have all the whistles and bells that make a great box like loudness function and vu meters ect, not to mention they are made in Malaysia which explains the crap build quality tbh though it really depends what your after in a box, just my two penny's worth mate

if you want a box that has the full package then.... grab the one in the lower pic

John, I can see why you want one of these as they look mean and have a lote of syle which Is enough reason to get one! You're right about the prices yo yo ing, I've seen battered ones in crap condition going for big money while I've kicked myself for not putting a cheeky in bid cos people are getting bargains!!

Azz, the main thing that put me off the D8614 was I thought it was a 3 piece!! It's not though is it?

They look cool for sure. I got two of them. Repaired the tapedecks with new gears and they are working beautiful. I never listen to them, because they sound crap to so many other boxes. But with the big woofer they look lovely on my wall

They are well known here in the Netherlands. If I tell somebody I'm collecting boomboxes, they often start about their own "big three speaker Philips" they once owned.  And how good it was lol

No mate it's a 1 piece although it does look 3 piece, the sound on the 8614 is pretty mind blowing

Well I've got two D8444's one in silver and one graphite...they are very handsome boxes. I upgraded the speakers in the silver one and it does sound much better. Still no M70 tho. I like having mine and my dark one does get used as its the one I disco'ed up with some LEDs

Michiel is obviously talking about the 8444 and not the 8614 Reno the 8444 doesn't come close to the 8614 and I would challenge anyone to find a better sounding mid size unit than the 8614

Youre right Lav, I was talking about the 8444. The 8614 is ten times or more better!
