Hi all,
I'm new to collecting but have seen one or two of the Hitachi TRK8190 about and wonder if they are any good.
The look and specs look excellent but what do they sound like and are they simple to fix/maintain?

They're not too hard to get hold of at a reasonable price. Not that difficult to work on. In my view it doesn't have the quality feel and construction of a Sharp GF but not bad. Sounds OK. Never really liked mine tho so I moved it on. Some really like them tho. IMO the 9191 you just got is waaaay better

Thanks for your honest reply - I know my friend had one of the Hitachi back in the day ... but we were all much younger then and it was a while ago and memory of its quality a distant one ;-) My Sharp will keep me occupied for the moment as I need to get belts and new aerials - any tips where best to get these appreciated too - thanks.

I got aerials for mine on ebay for maybe £3 each...they are a perfect fit. Not sure of the seller tho as it was a while ago

Yep why not and as you say the 9191 is a way better box, a classic without a doubt

Not gonna let the 9191 go - it's a keeper ... but as always, keen to look out other gems too :-)

Most sharps are crap too... the only ones worth bothering with are the 777 series

and some of the good 3 peice like the gx 300 and the wf939

Well its not just about the sound otherwise I'd have loads of hifi gear (I don't have any these days!) sometimes it's the look, sometimes its just how it's put together, sometimes its a combination...doesn't have to be the ultimate box to be an enjoyable one. The GF's just have style...not unlike me lol

They do look nice si and some are built well i'll give you that my friend....you know me by now though lad...i must be the only guy where an m70 is shall we say ....the entry level for a boombox...trouble with me...the music is as important as the boombox....always has been

i bet that sanyo 920 sounds better than any sharp you have
