Hi BM, hope you are safe and well, keep yer chin up.

Hey BM, hope everything is ok, I'm actually considering the Makerbot 3D printer. It can only print up to about 6 cubic inches and cost about two grand, but I can get it for 40% off. The only problem, is that you can actually see the layers of threads in the final print, so the sufaces will not be smooth.

samovar - 2013-10-18 10:43

great to see you back BM  and what a great post, thanks for sharing!

Don't think the home consumer printers are really usable for boombox and Walkman parts yet. At least not the parts that need mechanical strength and high accuracy. Gears etc. The better commercially available printers are very good and usable but they need a very hefty investement. Think a lasercutter is still the best bet for now, but you need to redesign the parts so you can make them out of 2d parts.

In a couple of weeks I will pick up the d8614 orange gear again. The printer I'm using is getting serviced and will be aligned again in three weeks. So hope it will be a quality part lol
