Aiwa Stereo 600 Part 1

seb968 - 2013-10-22 17:27

On my return from work there was a big parcel waiting for me today. My neighbor Nikki (bless her) had taken it in for me. She said it weighed a ton!! I had a pretty good idea what it was. I opened the parcel in the dining room and the cats started were as excited as I was (they like a cardboard box). So it has arrived, Aiwa stereo 600. Not mint by any means, but not too bad either. The tape deck doesn’t work (as described in the auction) there are a few scuffs and scratches and the Arial looks a little pitted; but not too bad at all. Switched it on and the sound quality is pretty damn good. It has the potential, when restored to sound better than any boom box in my collection; however it may not where this crown for long as I am hoping a JVC-RC M70 will turn up soon! I hadn’t realized how big this machine is!! At low volumes it is rich and warm; the DSL function gives it a pretty reasonable bass response. I haven’t tried it at high volume yet.  The pictures I have taken are straight out of the box; I will take more as I clean it up (and hopefully fix it). Anyway my first impression of this Aiwa is that I like it very much!

The packing was awfull, some people have no idea, had a nasty feeling it would be smashed but luckily it survived!! Monty the cat enjoyed the box for a while though, before he started sherdding it!!!

Pretty good considering that I think that it spent some it's life in a damp place!  think with a little work it will be excellent.

Thanks Bison

Yeah, that's a nice one! But am afraid you will be bored with it as soon the M70 arrives  Hope you get the cassette running with not to much trouble! Found it a strange box to open up. Has some kind of clicking system at the top. Congrats with it!

seb968 - 2013-10-23 11:33

Thanks Michiel; but I think it will be some time before I can enjoy the M-70, it arrived today; I think it is going to need a bit of work, ebay pictures don't tell the whole story! Will be posting pictures of that soon. I'll try and get the Aiwa done first!!

northerner - 2013-10-23 11:45

What's up with the M70?...looked pretty minty in the eBay pics

northerner - 2013-10-23 11:46

Hope you don't have to wait as long as I did for my M70!...took a few months before it was working on both channels...took over a year to get it perfect!

bison - 2013-10-23 12:12

my M70 was the worst packed box ive ever seen, luckily i escaped with minor damage,

just fired mine up just now..love it

Hi Si

Will post pictures on M-70 on the next thread, possibly not as bad as I first thought. I'l know more when I get it on the bench but want to get the Aiwa going first. Should not of aquired two projects at once but thought I ought to bag the 70 at that price.

yeah forget about all the other boxes and change the name on the forum to the "M70 owners club"

seb968 - 2013-10-23 14:34

Sounds good!!, may need some spares!

northerner - 2013-10-23 14:50

Spares?...got some rec sliders, a repaired volume slider, a volume button, and a mint aerial in my parts box

northerner - 2013-10-23 14:52

Yay I'm a member of the M70 club lol ...strip it, respray the grills, re-blue the woofers and it'll look awesome

seb968 - 2013-10-23 15:00

Cheers  might drop you a line if you are willing to partwith any spares. Are the woofers ment to be blue? They look black in mine!
