generally speaking, Philips boxes have nice looks and sound good --especially those with the spatial sound. with a few exceptions, however, they're cheaply built and you can run into mechanical problems with the tape deck. no idea about the 778, but it looks nice. wheter to grab her or not it's really a matter of taste

On my experience they sound no worse than some but if I were honest they're far from the best.

I got two Philips 774. Which is the same unit I guess. Like samovar says, these Philips boxes also suffer from weak mechanics in the tapedeck. If it still works, it probably won't work for long if you start playing cassettes in it.

Sound of these is good, they have spatial stereo and nice bass at low volume. But they have no power and aren't loud at all. Typical radio for indoor use. They look different, that's what nice about these radios.
