When I sold and shipped my huge Toshiba WX-1 - which is about the size of this Sharp - it cost me almost $110 just to ship - not counting the cost of the shipping box and packing material. From what they told me, they're supposed to measure the size (and weight) of the shipping box, and if it exceeds some limit - they simply double or triple the rate - or something like that.

yeah normally i dont charge a handling or packing fee on any of the stuff i sell and i do this for a living...but on a boombox i must because first off ebay wants a big cut...then the packing and handling then i gotta catch a cab to the PO because its about 20 or more blocks away...and one time i sold a box my post office didnt want to accept it so i had to go to 2 other Post offices to which would and that was a fustrating story in itself but as an dedicated seller i did what i could to complete my sale...the life of an ebay seller...

I ship vintage schwinns all the time and the price never exceeds $80 and these bikes can way over 50lbs. The key is to get it under a certain size. On bikes, I believe the measurement is 52x30x8. You might just be over the limit for oversize by a smidge which is costing you double.. You may want to inquire with fedex or UPS.

well it also depends on the distance too the further the more it costs...

Those boxes are BIG and heavy than a mutha... That shipping price sounds about right to me. Nod Yes

Good luck with your potential sale. Smile
