[SOLD] That's right, a Big Ben for sale!

gunner - 2008-05-28 18:53

Well guy's let me first intorduce myself. The name is Gunner, and I go by "fan-addict" on eBay, and "tgunner" on AudioKarma.org.
Now to the main topic. I have come into possession of a Sanyo M-X960K "Big-Ben" and heard some of you may be interested. Big Grin
I would give the unit about a 6-7 on a scale of 10 for physical condition. It has some pitting and scratches, but that's why I took so many nice photos!
As to functionality, the radio and amp work great. The sound is amazing! I was listening to jazz on it for an hour or two the other night. The cassette deck does not seem to work however. As to other problems, one of the antennas is missing, and the cover to the eject button is as well.
Well enough of the negatives, the box looks as if it has never had batteries installed, and still has the battery tubes in the compartment. Also included is the operation manual as well as the original power cord.

As for price, I don't have much idea what one like this is worth. I guess if you are interested, you can leave a comment here, or send an email to gunnerlake@gmail.com
I also have many IM accounts: tgunner90 (AIM), gunnerlake@hotmail.com, and gunnerlake (yahoo and skype)

And now without further delay... the pictures!

kittmaster - 2008-05-28 19:32

how much??

gunner - 2008-05-28 19:44

As I said, I'm not too familiar with these units. I know they can be worth into the 300-500 range, but I don't know what this would be worth with it's redeeming qualities and detractions. I suppose if you would like to talk further in depth over price, or make an offer, to take it to one of the privative contact methods I listed.

Thanks,
Gunner

gunner - 2008-05-28 19:56

I don't want to sound rude in my posts or responses; it's just that I have never tried to sell something without a good idea of it's value. As I told someone else in an email: "If you really like it, make an offer. I will wait for a couple offers, and make a decision. Highest offer may not get it if say... they are international while a close 2nd offer is in the US." I stand by this, so please go about this calmly, there will be no rushing or fevered bidding. All non-price related questions and discussion is welcomed in the thread here. Wink

Thanks,
Gunner

vladi123456 - 2008-05-28 22:38

Gunner, welcome!
And I just want to say - in my opinion, BigBen is the second best sounding box in my small collection - after M90!

ghettoblaster68 - 2008-05-29 00:02

hey vladi,

i`m surprised cause i would say that RX 7700 and SHARP 777 will beat the BIG BEN easy.
maybe i have to get a service on my BIG BEN Frown

cheers

redbenjoe - 2008-05-29 06:21

hi gunner - welcome to this cool club --

none of us are 'the experts' on what prices should be --
but just as a guide --i won a really good one on ebay for about 350 this year in a 7 day auction -

so that may be top dollar for these days

kittmaster - 2008-05-29 06:33

I sent my offer in, sounds about right RBJ, that is roughly the trend I've seen over the last year......and considering the heavy pitting....and no replacement parts....hopefully will seem fair.

I do not have RX-7700 - only RX-7000. RX-7000 sounds very similar to BigBen, although BigBen has more bass. As far GF-777 - BigBen has better highs - which I like.
All of these are super nice boxes though Big Grin

Howdy Gunner Wink
Any other goodies for sale?
Looking for an m90 if ya got 1.
I see your in nj. May have to bypass some future shipping costs, If we deal.
Sussex county is where i'm from. Hows bout you?

masterblaster84 - 2008-05-29 08:22

Welcome Gunner. Smile

RBJ is right the prices on these are usually not exceptionally high and given the appearance issues yours has it will likely take a decent hit in value. Bottom line really is what are you comfortable selling it for, if someone is willing to pay your price and your both happy then I'd say it's a good deal.

gunner - 2008-05-29 08:31

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's refreshing after I got a nasty anonymous email from a cowardly viewer.

Kittmaster's is the only offer so far, so he's in the lead! Lookin' good for 'ya Kittmaster!

As to my location GODSMACKED, I am down south between Atlantic City and Cape May.

And for the question of any other items, I also have some other radios and little B/W TV's. Oh and before I forget, I was looking over the Big-Ben last night and the top portion of the remaining antenna will come out out of the lower part when pulled; however the whole length is not bent. Kittmaster: you can revise your offer if you'd like, it's fine by me.

If you would like to see the other things I have the links are as such:

kittmaster - 2008-05-29 09:06

The offer stands, I don't mind the leg work of having to fix something for a good price if my offer stands up.

Chris

redbenjoe - 2008-05-29 10:57

hey vladi -- to compare to your big ben --
you really do have an rx7700 --
because, unless someone can tell us the difference --
your panny national 4360 is the identical box --
right ??

Laugh Out LoudI was scratching my head on that one Ira, Confused I could have sworn Vladi had an RX-7700 in his avatar. Now it makes sense, he really doesn't have an RX-7700 by the number but he does have the National version.

jaredscottfla - 2008-05-29 11:11

It plays loud and full, albeit a bit slow. I did not try on AC though, only the batteries I had in it. The radio sounds awesome on FM, AM and even Shortwave.

I won't be in NJ for much longer; moving down to Florida in mid-August. I'm trying to clear out my corners first!

Gunner

vladi123456 - 2008-05-29 11:35

Ira and Don - I would like to ask you - in the future - please refrain from using RX-7700 and Vladi in the same sentence. I do not wish to be associated with a plebeian RX-7700 version when I have a perfectly snobby National Panasonic one Laugh Out Loud

But on a serious note - HA!! I always confuse RX-7000, RX-7200 and RX-7700 - I thought we were talking about RX7200!! My NP-4360 is not even close to BigBen sound-wise. Panasonic is a very good looking box - but they aren't even in the same league sound-wise - BigBen and 4360

reli - 2008-05-29 11:53

There's no difference between the 7700 and 4360, right?

As far as I understand - 7700 is the silver one, and 4360 is black
Here's a better pic of 4360

sikorsky - 2008-05-29 12:32

Nope. I have RX-7700. It is black

vladi123456 - 2008-05-29 12:48

Then maybe it's Panasonic RX-7700 that is silver, but National RX-7700 is black?

reli - 2008-05-29 12:58

What is the black made of, anyway? Is it:
1) black plastic
2) black-painted metal
3) or anodized metal?

sikorsky - 2008-05-29 13:03

National RX-7700 is black and has japanese tuner (FM up to 90)

redbenjoe - 2008-05-29 13:36

reli --it does LOOK like something better than plastic Smile --but, its just plain plastic like most other boxes --
______________________________

vladi - seems like you have a mint
(but plastic Smile) 4360 there --- nice angle shot

reli - 2008-05-29 13:59

Oh well, still better than silver-painted plastic. They put way too much of that stuff inside cars nowdays, it's played out

Hey vladi, can the meters or the tuning window be lit up and left that way, instead of just temporarily lit?

vladi123456 - 2008-05-29 14:15

I'm quite positive it's only temporarily (about 67% positive Big Grin)

Alright guys, I have two offers thus far. Kittmaster has the #1 spot. I don't think anyone can top his offer; I think he really wants it! What do you all say? Should I post "SOLD!"?
