Hitachi TRK-8180E for sale...

jt - 2008-02-22 11:12

Hello,

I've got this European version TRK-8180 that I would like to move on to a good home so I have more space in mine. I'd rather it go to someone that is part of this forum than put it up on ebay...

NOTE: IT IS 220v ONLY, but it does have a 12V DC in as well, so the proper $15 Radio Shack adapter should have you plugged in and running off of wall-juice in no time. Personally, I have only run it with batteries.

I am the second owner and have never actually played tapes in this box, but the tape deck head engages and plays my Digisette MP3 cassette player just fine (see the vids). The belt driven parts are not working and I cannot "hear" the motors. FF/REW buttons do not move anything, but when you press down on the FF or REW buttons with the tape door open, you can feel resistance in the spindles. The capstan pin does not turn. At one point I opened the box and could see that the wider of the belts is definitely snapped. The thin one on the left (when looking from the back) looks okay.

Someone with good knoledge of how to repair and clean tape decks should have no problem restoring this box to 100%. Finding the belts and getting to the tape deck behind the circuit board will be the big challenges.

The box itself sounds fantastic when playing the radio, using the DIN line-in (not RCA) or even when playing the Digisette MP3 via the tape deck. The DPRS LED lights and the tuner window lights work as well. I have not tried the phono-in. There is no static when you turn the volume, balance, bass or treble knobs. They turn smoothly and have a very substantial feel. This is a very well built boombox.

As far as physical blemishes, there are two small dings on the top/front edge (see pics) and some black discoloration around the word Hitachi on the top that should be noted. Typical of a box this old that has been used, there are minor scratches here and there. Considering its age, on the scale from 1-10 I'd give this thing a solid 8 for optical appearance.

The battery compartment looks great and the antennas appear to be original and in very good condition as well.

Please look over the pics carefully and shoot me a PM with offer if you're interested.

Double-boxed shipping inside the USA will be via UPS and cost $40.

Thanks and regards.

I'm fan of HITACHI. I have the same boombox. 8180E. And "The box itself sounds fantastic when playing the radio" is not true for me. I'm also second owner of my bbx. My bbx works fine, but to be honest sounding of that model NOT SO FANTASTIC and for my human opinion it needs more bass. But, as I said, it is my opinion, I produce drum & bass music and it is not enough bass for me anytime in sounding Smile
Anyway, perfect item. Good luck with selling it.

Hey Fuzz... thanks...

You're not sitting under a bridge somewhere with the radar detector scaring speeders are you??? I'm having visions of cars whizzing by you, drivers staring at you and hoping you don't chase them down and give them a ticket... Meanwhile, you're actually sitting there surfing around on the in-car computer shopping for boomboxes... LOL!

Take care, keep us all safe!

Fair enough... Sound quality is subjective. Maybe I should have said "sounds as it should."
