oldskool69 - 2008-02-20 06:17

Crap, I just bought one this morning from parttime22, private transaction. Not black though. If I knew we could've discussed. I don't know how I let this slip by... Roll Eyes

skippy1969 - 2008-02-20 06:30

Frown Sorry man!

masterblaster84 - 2008-02-20 09:15

Skippy, I think I missed that as well. I just bought the silver version a few weeks ago but I really like the looks of the black one.

skippy1969 - 2008-02-20 11:30

Thanks man! I'm glad that you have one, they are a nice unit.If I don't sell mine its ok.I'm not going to give it away,I just need more room. Nod Yes

panasonic.fan - 2008-02-20 14:49

Sold!

That didn't take long. Fair price for a great box.

skippy1969 - 2008-02-20 14:54

Thanks P.F.! I'm sure the new owner will be totally happy with his new unit. Nod Yes

Congrat's Skippy. You did a lot to the box, you deserve that selling priceSmile How hard is it to change those lights on the deck?

redbenjoe - 2008-02-21 10:29

agree for once with PF !

skippy - i would have been on it -- except there have been a few old posts here - written by some reputable members --
they said the black speakers were alot different than the silver ones - and did not sound as good-

so asking if you have ever had both at the same time and compared then ?

skippy1969 - 2008-02-21 10:49

Peter,Thanks I'm sure my price was fair too.I hate to see it go but I'm running out of room with my recent purchase of my Marantz PMS-7000.Also I need to buy new tires for my Mustang. Frown It is really easy to change the lamps.

Skippy's speakers always sound better than anybody elses. Comparison is futile. Our inner ears and even our outer ears cannot be safely depended on. Only inward harmonies in your mind and ones' own tonal imagination can give beauty and dignity to these or any of the speakers you consider.

skippy1969 - 2008-02-21 10:52

Thanks Ira,I have not owned a PC55C ,so I can't say for sure that the PC55C sounds better than the PC550C.I can't believe they would,I would think the woofers would be the same in both units. I't would be fun to compare the two against each other. Nod Yes

with my "untrained" ear, I would say they almost sound the same. The silver one does have slightly better bass, just slightly, I don't think you would know it unless someone actually mentioned itSmile

redbenjoe - 2008-02-21 16:20

well well -- then lets never listen to those 'reputable' members -- who have combined to make me lose skippys nice JVC !

but lets do cherish the words of our much less reputable member -- who proclaims inner harmony proclamations

There is no difference in the sound. With the exception of being black there is no difference between the two that is discernible. Including specifications. I am pretty sure that if you were to open up the speaker cabinet or amp you would find the same part numbers as the PC-55. I think that sometimes when listening to twins, with completely same innards, we want to see/hear the difference and maybe end up seeing/hearing the oasis/sound that isn't there. Smile Either way great score Panafan and these thing rock hard regardless! Big Grin

peter.griffin - 2008-02-23 06:35

hey oldschool, someone actually did take them apart, and noticed the speakers did have different part numbers. And they noticed the material was inferior, and the speaker spider was smaller. I don't notice any diff in sound, but that's what they found?Smile

Interesting! Maybe I haven't heard them both loud enough to see which one gives up first. At normal listening levels, and reasonably cranked with no EQ or all settings flat is how I listen when comparing. This "levels" (no pun intended) the playing field. This is why I may have heard no difference between the two. I would like to know when the model runs started. I know the silvers were out before the blacks were so there very well may be a difference production wise, but there was no difference price wise that I could recall. And that in itself is a shame because those who bought them new got jacked if JVC went the cheap route with the components and kept quiet. Smile

redbenjoe - 2008-02-23 08:48

peter- thanks for that research -- its very intersting

peter.griffin - 2008-02-23 10:45

no prob's rbj, and oldsckool. I didn't do much research though, it was the other guys in that thread. Like I said, I really can't hear much diff between the two of them, maybe I'm going deaf? Leaving
