Feeler: Marantz CRS-7810

jlf - 2009-02-14 11:08

Minty Marantz CRS-7810

Possibly for sale.

Offered up to well established members.

This Mega Grail has been in the S2G family for quite some time, and is MINT!

Here is my reason for possibly selling:

[I have found a G R A I L in the wild, and after badgering the original owner for weeks about it, he has finally; because of a costly pending divorce, decided to let me have it.

For a princely sum of course, and it aint cheap either! My first 'in the wild find!'

That will be revealed at a later date. A search returns a lot of talk about this fabled, unicorn of a box, but not ONE single photo!

Needless to say, I didnt even know it existed until I had a conversation with this local business owner, who happened to mention he still had an old box he got as a kid. It is MINT.]

Now, back to the Marantz CRS-7810

So... Because I wont allow my collection to exceed a certain amount of boxes, one has to go.

Because of its grail status, I am willing to possibly part with my Marantz.

I thought I had photos, but cant find the file... they will be posted later if any interest...

Or go look at a particular Marantz CRS-8000 in another thread posted up in Collections just the other day... Same thing, only 1 cassette.

Did I say its MINT?!

Price wont be cheap, will be packaged to survive the worst... All offers considered.

Thanks!

Thanks guys...

I really dont want to let it go...

Sin... Maybe I'll get this 'secret grail' and enjoy owning it for a few weeks, before passing it along to you? If I do that, I wont show it off as 'mine', I'll let you have the joy of that. So long as you credit me for finding it in the wild! Big Grin

Is this a cryptic for sale thread or what?

Im thinking $350 shipped for a minty Marantz CRS-7810

Possibly the only one in North America!

l.lopez - 2009-02-14 18:54

Pics Please Big Grin.

jlf - 2009-02-14 18:59

Absolutely my friend!

This is a previous S2G owners photo... Note the Florida sunshine! Smile

It is in the same exact MINT condition.

I can take actual, current photos in greater detail if interested!

Thanks! Smile

Yes, I know THAT Marantz rather well too!

There are a lot of subtle differences, beyond the second cassette though!

Tweeter cover shape, switch positions, etc...

Its fun to note all the changes Marantz made, even though these two boxes are the 'same design.'

Take the Sharp GF-777 family for example, from a 919 to a 1000, they are all much more alike than these two CRS twins!

skippy1969 - 2009-02-14 19:13

Jef is correct about the Subtle differences. The CRS-8000 is closer in design to the PMS-7000.
Here is a pic of a CRS-7810.

jlf - 2009-02-14 19:14

Nice! Where did that photo come from?

Did you also own this 7810 'once apon a time?' Smile

skippy1969 - 2009-02-14 19:15

No Jeff, this is a photo from somebody's collection I kept from a long time ago. Big Grin

If I remember correctly it is the record mute button Frank. Wink

jlf - 2009-02-14 19:44

Thats right!

It is a 'REC MUTE'

So... Im not the ONLY one here who also collects photos of boxes eh? Smile

Ive probably got a 1000 photos from this site in my very own 'kinda' BBDB!

jlf - 2009-02-14 20:20

Fire side photos taken less than ten minutes ago...

So fresh you can smell them!

TEAC Cassette not included!

johnnygto - 2009-02-14 20:32

jlf - 2009-02-14 20:42

I do indeed! Smile

Sorry folks!

This one is... SOLD!

I will let the proud new owner announce it to the world if he so chooses.

Thank you!

johnnygto - 2009-02-14 20:45

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate the sale to me.

It is very nice looking and makes this my third Marantz, I love 'em. I still have a PMS-7000 thats needs some TLC, but it will all happen in time.

I love the way these are built.

Johnny

jlf - 2009-02-14 20:48

I totally do too... really heavy.

So much quality, even in how the knobs turn and switches feel when you use them. Everything has a 'weight' too it.

I think the 7000 is 'mostly' like this one and the 8000 if I remember right?

redbenjoe - 2009-02-14 22:05

johnny --congrats on that gorgeous box box at a very fair price --

it came from australia to me -- the only reason that i sold it -- was that it turned out to be identical in sound and 99% in looks as my 7000 -

these are too big for some us to have two of Smile

skippy1969 - 2009-02-15 02:17

Yes congrats Johnny. Cool

johnnygto - 2009-02-15 12:53

Thanks Ira and Skippy, I am still waiting to get the 7000 fixed. This will hold me over till I get it done. I do have a little junk PMS-3500 around here somewhere...to listen to for now Wink

They are big impressive boxes and seems to be most time in great condition, I guess they were costly when new and taken good care of by their owners..

Johnny

jlf - 2009-02-15 13:19

I agree with that...

They really all seem to be in better condition than your average Lasonic TRC-931.

Im sure they were NOT used as 'ghettoblasters' very often.

Possibly more like a modern day shelf system perhaps?

What kid in the 80's would have even known of Marantz?

Rappers all had JVC's, Conion's or Sharp's... So these wouldnt have been on the mind of kids influenced by pop culture.

Wonder what they sold for new? What stores carried them? Probably not Sears or the like...
