B & O eBay craziness...

isolator42 - 2008-09-07 23:19

Title says it all - eBay never fails to amaze:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&&item=2...e=ADME:B:WNA:GB:1120
That's over US$550.
I know their stuff is pricey, but this probably wasn't as much as that when new.
Sheesh.

Nice unit, but IMO not £310 nice. I have a couple of them (because they weren't very expensive back when I got them), and the sound is clear and precise, but not very bassy or loud. I mean, design or no design, this is a mini! Unique, but not very smooth, slider/wheel combo tunes the radio.

isolator42 - 2008-09-08 07:35

You have two?
Fancy selling one? Smile

mehyar - 2008-09-08 08:10

I have a pair of these also and am
impressed by FM/AM reception, 3 easy tune
preset buttons, and a very nice sound
that makes you want to listen to all
your music collection over again.

The FM and AM main tuner knob is a
Slide-Rule type and you can move
up and down the tuner scale very easily.

This Yuppie BoomBox has 2.5 Watts RMS per channel and is 10 Lbs. and Slim but not a real mini ---sorry to disagree with honorable member.

The cassette buttons are hard press
buttons, and they also give review
sound when FF and REWinding.

EekWow! That's by far the most I've seen that model sell for. I would like to have one but I personally wouldn't spend more than about 25% of that price tops for a nice example.

I'm pretty sure one of them has "issues." If I remember right, one of the bands is out (can't recall if it's AM or FM). They're both over at my self-storage unit, but later in the week I might be able to get there and check them out, if you're still interested.

By and large, I don't disagree with mehyar. The sound is crisp and clear. And the boombox is heavy. It's easy to tell it's a high-end mini (depending on how you define "mini": I do it by size of the box, and this unit is a small one).

Unfortunately, I just don't like the wheel/slider tuner (I always shoot past the desired frequency; I'd prefer a knob), and I don't have a way of measuring the sensitivity of the tuner. In a metro area like here, radio signals are strong and loud.

Lars Denmark

asdexander - 2008-09-08 12:05

Sounds like you could earn some money, Lars.

mehyar - 2008-09-08 16:26

There are two version as far as i know:

120 Volts AC only for North America (Black color Handle)

220 Volts AC only for Euro (White color Handle)

And both have AUX input that can also handle
phono-graph record type (extra REA AMP) with
flip of a switch on the back.

The B & O is on my list. I just love the classic B&O styling.

So these are easy to come by in Denmark? Even 800DKK is still over £80 - right on the limit of what this b-box is worth, IMHO.

I was amazed one went for over £300. I wouldn't expect it to happen often...

erniejade - 2008-09-11 09:18

big ben --
hate em Smile

riddler - 2008-09-12 18:02

That IS a really slick looking box....I used to work with a guy who had one of their TV's. Paid something like $15,000 for a 50 inch 10 years ago....The tube went out and they brought him a brand new TV from the PRESENT year... Like other people said, you are pretty much buying the styling and name with this one...

jameswp67 - 2008-09-12 18:47

the cloth grilles are not removable...

riddler - 2008-09-12 21:48

They have been removed in the auction picture haven't they???

jameswp67 - 2008-09-13 05:08

no they have not been, it looks like that.
