jvc.floyd - 2009-01-31 08:10

it's just another off brand i guess basically the same box as the elta master blaster/matsuki, I'm pretty sure only the helix hx 4635/wheely is the only version with wheels.

gluecifer - 2009-01-31 08:25

My ESC JC-2000 has wheels!

Rock On.

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-31 09:24

awesome well at least we know now ,i owned a wheely but not the other models.

r.o.y.a.l - 2009-01-31 16:31

elta has wheels too homie !

blasterpunk - 2009-01-31 17:09

Matsuki has wheels Nod Yes

bashngu - 2009-01-31 19:45

Perhaps wheels, but does anyone know what the Wheely has that I am fairly certain that none of the others do? 3 guesses. First 2 dont count.

- 2009-01-31 21:17

I have both and the Wheely 5000's Equalizer is different. On the wheely when moving the equalizer up and down the blue graph under the levels moves up and down and on the Matsuki it is just a picture on plastic of the blue graph.

Winner!!!! I do believe the Helix is the only one with the moveable sliders above the EQ as opposed to the sticker. Havent seen them all tho. Like the Orbex for instance. Never heard that name except on a vacuum cleaner. Well close anyway.

panasonic.fan - 2009-02-01 07:52

I don't really see what either "version" is worth getting excited about.

$999? For this? Laugh Out Loud

I have never heard one of these, but they look like they have the potential to play "LOUD"... I was asking if they play as loud as Conion 100 the only reference point I have for something this large in another thread, never got an answer... I'm just curious if these have the cohonies to back up the looks Big Grin

Yes, it appears that the Wheely is the only one that has this. I love mine and the 10 inchers do move some serious air. But, I wouldn't pay $1000 for any box (save for a NIB C100f or similar) IMHO, it's missing too many things for that asking price.

What box is it in your avatar?

tpr - 2009-02-01 16:59

A LUcKy BoOmBoX guy !..... Big Grin

Congrats!

I believe these are rare boxes!

tpr - 2009-02-01 17:08

Here`s a propper description! Laugh Out Loud

johnnygto - 2009-02-01 18:31

That pic is of me. That is me. Big Grin

I bartered down to $750.00 Smile

I now need some parts, but you know I belong to the right board.

Seriously, I talked with other members who have these and took the plunge.

I hope it turns out to be nice, what got me is I love my Clairtone 7980 and it has the same lights bars, just above the speakers and the fact I saw the Fuzz's (that really sold me)Smile It's a little bigger than my 7980 but seems like it should sound good.

Thanks TPR, wish I looked better in the photo, but the hair started the war, I'm just finishing it! Smile

Johnny <-keepin/bringing it to the S2G family!

Why, that would be a Panasonic RX-5600. Not a cheapo, not hi-fi by any means, but a pretty nice box.

johnnygto - 2009-02-01 20:28

Panny Fan, I love all boxes, and you have what appears to be a beautiful 5600! Smile

I do like the big flasy ghetto boxes, but no one can argue with terrific Ambience sound Smile

Cheers to loving good radios and great friends!

Johnny

- 2009-02-01 20:43

johnny, make sure you have insurance on that box if you are having it shipped Laugh Out Loud

-gsbadbmr

johnnygto - 2009-02-01 20:55

You know it!!!! It's almost impossible to make it to me in one piece! I have family in California. Not that its gonna help, could be years before I see them Frown

We'll see, I am covered two ways, by shipping insurance and since the seller only accpepts visa or mc I'm covered there too!

I normally don't make it habit to lose money, thanks GSBADBMR for your concern! Wink

As a collector johnny i am more concerned about losing the ORBEX to the postal system...but the good thing is...if it arrives damaged you could always part it out Big Grin ...there appears to be lots of these boxes with broken/missing parts and doner boxes are always good Big Grin

Let us know how this turns out...i'll keep my fingers crossed for it's safe arrival!

-gsbadbmr

johnnygto - 2009-02-01 21:21

I agree GSBADBMR, but if it comes down to one or the other, I will have one for sure. Big Grin

Unfortunately I don't have your luck in finding boxes locally Frown. I am out every weekend scouring goodwills, thrift shops, and pawn shops.

The only option I have to find a box this rare seem to be EPAY.

I appreciate your concern and thanks for the fingers crossed, all the help I can use. Nod Yes

Johnny

P.S. All boxes were originally shipped right, or is Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia.... local? Laugh Out Loud

- 2009-02-01 21:29

The ELTA/ORBEX is the only box left that i want for my collection...and i have yet to ever see one or find one Frown . I don't have the guts or the heart to have one shipped or i myself would buy one and have it shipped...i just can't bring myself to taking the chance of it getting destroyed in shipping..."maybe" one day i will change my mind but until then i'll have to wait until i find one locally Frown

Don't forget to get some pics up when it arrives Big Grin

Plastics become "brittle & fragile" over 25 years...and IMO lots of these older boomboxes don't get packed properly...when they were originally shipped from Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia they were shipped in BULK...on pallets in the proper custom fit packaging...not individually and shipped in used/worn out cardboard boxes Laugh Out Loud

-gsbadbmr

johnnygto - 2009-02-01 21:44

I also agree plastic becomes more brittle, but these "bigger" sellers on Epay I hope will take a little more care... Who knows, I'm already a nervous wreck about it... thanks. Confused

I have some NIB units, they were packed like crap compared to what I have received from some of the better sellers (ghettoblaster4life, charlesd--kens)... they made it okay... so I can only hope...

I am very nervous, and I think GSBADBMR likes it! Smile

Actually johnny i don't like it...AT ALL. I myself am shipping an absolute MINT boombox tomorrow to a VERY valuable member here tomorrow who lives VERY far from me, and i am VERY nervous about shipping it. With that being said, i have packaged it the way only us "collectors" could dream of having a boombox packaged...double boxed...LOTS of insulation and protection with 2 super solid cardoard boxes properly and clearly labeled...and i am still nervous about something happening to it throughout the shipping process...i will be saying a prayer after it leaves my possession tomorrow at the post office and the S2G member who is buying it has already started saying his prayers for it's safe arrival Laugh Out Loud .

-gsbadbmr

johnnygto - 2009-02-02 13:48

GSBADBMR I wish you luck also and hope that both of our boxes make it ok.

Johnny <-bit grumpy 'cause I'm nervous!

redbenjoe - 2009-02-02 15:26

hey johnny --its great to get rare box that you really want - nice going-

looking at your seller -- he owns a vintage electronics outfit --so, YES pray - but there is a very good chance it will be packed like it needs to be !!

also -- our gordie is not exaggerating the care and quality he puts into his packing --

i am the lucky member in his todays story about his own packing --look at the size of this package he sent to me today --

and all thats in there is a dinky little 20" box !! Big Grin
as soon as he sent this picture -- i stopped praying Smile

anyway -- i bet you and i will both have our boxes arrive safely.

- 2009-02-02 21:16

I do hope both boxes arrive in perfect shape and un-damaged. If the shipping was more reasonable for "size", Ira's package would have had a 3rd box for extra security, but i think the double boxed package should be fine, and i was lucky enough to find a box that has handles on the sides for easier carrying and better handling as it passes through so many hands throughout it's journey Big Grin

johnny & Ira...please let us know how everything works out once you have received your new boomboxes Big Grin johhny, if you could also post pics of the packing of your Orbex that would be great...because if all goes well with yours i may just take the chance of having one shipped also.

-g

johnnygto - 2009-02-02 21:24

No problem GSBADBMR! and thanks Ira for the reassurance!

You should of heard the conversation today between me and the seller wooooo.... he thinks I'm weird, while not totally untrue... Smile

I asked 20 questions and only received slight assurance that it will be shipped "expertly"... I'll take pics while opening it, I have already located the two missing knobs and will have them on the way.

No kidding this is the most expensive box I have EVER bought and the one most likely to be damaged!!! SCARY!!!

Johnny

- 2009-02-02 21:33

I'm scared when any box gets shipped...i guess it's because i've always had bad luck with the few boxes that i've had shipped in the past, but to be honest it's because the packaging was never done properly.

johhny, how far is the Orbex traveling from the seller to you...is it a big journey?

-gsbadbmr

johnnygto - 2009-02-02 21:51

26 hours 23 minutes - 1805.21 miles

UGHHHHHHHHHH!!! Big Grin

I'll be lucky if I dont have a stroke before it shows up! Laugh Out Loud

Johnny

- 2009-02-02 22:01

Well johnny, i just checked on Mapquest.com, and the distance from me to Ira is:

25 hours 42 minutes - 1601.38 miles

I guess we BOTH may have strokes in the near future...check OT periodically for a "stroke" thread there Laugh Out Loud

-gsbadbmr

gluecifer - 2009-02-02 22:06

Well done JohnnyGTO, congratulations!
My JC-2000 Master Blaster is the most I'd paid for a ghetto (until I got my C-100F) I paid about US$275, in worse condition. But she restored up really nice.

I find it's an exceptional box in many respects that don't relate to the sound, but the amp in it had issues dealing with the speakers and mine clips a fair bit. The plastic casing is horrendously thin too and not meant to encase such powerful speakers. Awesome ghetto though, was the 2nd grail I picked up and have loved her dearly since.

I had to handmake all the tape deck buttons on mine though. And am still confounded as to the belt positioning to get Deck A working properly.

Hope she gets to you all in one piece hombre!

Rock On.

johnnygto - 2009-02-03 15:07

Thanks Glue and if my box turns out looking as good as yours, I'll be ecstatic!!! Smile

Pretty ingenious on the deck keys! looks great!

Yes I have received it. That is all I have to say about that.

Johnny

johnnygto - 2009-02-14 19:23

Well you can see the way I got it and the aftermath caused by a poor packaging job. As the UPS man was walking to my front door I heard "thump...thump..thump..." I mentioned WoW that does not sound good inside that box, considering the box was the SIZE of the RADIO!! sure enought the transformer broke loose like a rabied pinball and cleared the box out internally... Frown

Sorry I haven't replioed in so long, this has been kinda nerve wrecking for me.... Shipping is the only way I can get the boxes I want.. so I'm not giving up.. but... who knows....

Johnny

redbenjoe - 2009-02-14 19:49

johnny --i know from our PMs -that you KNOW what to do --

but also--
since this "big electronics dealer" cant pack --thats another name to add to our s2g sh1t sellers list

I wanna say I am really sorry Gordie, I know this really breaks your heart too. You said from your first comment this could happen, I am a very trustworthy person and always think people will care as much as I do about packaging... this was the WORST thing that has happened to me and my collecting. Not only for the fact I don't have this box, the simple fact that no one will probably ever again.. a peice of bommbox history. Frown....................

I wish I could say I am going to stop shipping, but the boxes I want are difficult to find around here. I will say that I would of paid more to this seller if it affected his packaging, but after talking to him in person, I thought we were on the same page.

Once again I am truly sorry for this happening.

Johnny

- 2009-02-14 20:07

It's not your fault johnny...stuff happens. It's true the seller never gave that ORBEX a fighting chance at all with the packing he did...i just hope you get your money back on this one, as it was not cheap. Don't let this incident discourage you about collecting and shipping Wink

-gsbadbmr

redbenjoe - 2009-02-14 20:13

in case its so --that this exact box is made under several AKA brands --then --you have a decent chance of getting a replacement -
hope so.

btw - i never get depressed --except seeing this box tragedy IS depressing.

johnnygto - 2009-02-14 20:35

I ended the conversation with the seller by saying "I ship boxes half this size in the same size carton double boxed, you shipped it like a pack of gum!"

Were not on great terms, my cedit card company better have my back.

Johnny

blasterpunk - 2009-02-15 03:55

Oh man, I feel sorry for you and the boombox. Is everything broken inside? Maybe there is a chance to change some parts. I have a Elta for parts and maybe AK has 1 too.

baddboybill - 2009-02-15 08:28

Johnny that really s--ks. I can not believe they packaged that beautiful bbx that way. I just sent out a 12LBs. bbx and total weight and size of carton was 21 LBs and at least half a size larger box with smaller box inside. I really feel your pain Mad (and the guy only paid $38)
